The Lion's Share Newsletter
August 2024
From the Desk of Mr. Miller:
Welcome to the first newsletter of the 2024-2025 school year! To our new families, I would like to wish you a warm welcome! To our returning families, welcome back! I am excited to see each of you and to hear all about your summer! I hope it has been a great summer filled with new memories for your Lions!
We hope that you will join us for our Back to School Event on Friday, August 9th from 3:00-3:30 (families with last names A-L) and 3:30-4:00 (families with last names M-Z). This will be a great time to meet your student's teacher, see the school, and to drop off any school supplies! Please be sure to stop by our PTA table as well to learn about how you can help support our students!
This year, D11 has introduced a district-wide Kindergarten Jumpstart Program. If you are a parent of an incoming kindergartener, please be sure to see the important information below, as your start of the year schedule will look a little different than our 1st-5th grade students. Please know you can always reach out to me if you have any questions at all.
Also new this year, D11 will be implementing monthly Professional Development Days for all teachers. These days will take place on one Monday each month. I wanted to make you aware of this as there won't be any school for students on Professional Development Days. I am hoping that by giving you this information now, it will help you to plan ahead! You can find the yearly district calendar (along with the Professional Development Days) here: https://bit.ly/4cd92SA
Lastly, I am really excited to begin another wonderful year with you and your Lion(s). This year will mark 10 years serving as the principal of Grant Elementary. I still feel that our students, our teachers, and our community (all of you!) are the best around. Please know how much I appreciate you and the partnerships we have created (or will create) to ensure your students have a wonderful school year filled with deep learning and fun! We hope Grant continues to be a place they look forward to coming to each and every day!
We will see you all soon!
Thank you,
Ryan Miller

School Supplies
Each year, D11 purchases the majority of student needed supplies. However, there are still some items that are needed for the school year. Please be sure to check out the student supply list below. Also, although not added to the list this year, teachers would be eternally grateful for any donation of facial tissue for the classrooms! Thank you!
