A NOTE FROM THE PRINCIPAL
Dear PES families,
Wow, what a hot week it has been at school! Students and teachers have done an amazing job of staying focused on learning, while trying to stay cool as well - but it has certainly felt like summer weather again. We had a beautiful day for our field trips on Tuesday. Students in K-2 participated in Coastal Clean Up, traveling to Totman Cove to help clean up the beach. We discussed the trash we found at the beach and the effects it could have on the plants and animals that inhabit the ocean and the beach. Follow this LINK for more information about the state of Maine coastal clean up efforts. Our 3-5 students hiked 1.7 miles into Seawall Beach via the Morse Mountain trail. Students enjoyed time exploring the beach, looking for treasures and wondering about what makes Seawall Beach so special.
Our educational saltwater tank is up and running with sea creatures. Thanks to a generous creature donation from a local midcoast lobsterman, we have a sea sponge, hermit crabs, rock crabs, a lobster, a sand dollar, a scallpone, a sea perch, a sea anemone, spider crabs and lots of mussels for the creatures to snack on. Students were excited to come to school on Tuesday morning and see some live action in the tank. The saltwater tank provides an amazing hands-on marine educational experience for students.
The Mad Science assembly will take place on Friday. Don’t forget that we do have scholarships available for students who would like to participate in the Mad Science before school program on Wednesdays. This takes place during our Great Start times, starting October 9th.
Thank you for sharing your learners with us this week!
Best,
Mrs. Willette, Principal
Thank You to Mrs. Richardson & Phipps. Land Trust for the Trail Maps last week!
STUDENT DENTAL CLINIC SEPTEMBER 27!
There will be a PK-5 student dental clinic at PES on September 27, 2024. The dental clinic is for all eligible students who do not regularly see a dentist or do not have a dental home. Brighter Maine Smiles is a Public Health Dental Hygiene service in Brunswick providing preventative treatment in school for people in need. It is recommended to have a complete exam with a dentist yearly. MaineCare insurance is accepted. A paper copy of the Dental Consent Form went home in Thursday folders previously, along with the Flu Clinic Consent Form and vaccine info for the October 23rd morning clinic for students and staff. You only need to complete and return the form/s if you wish to have the service. If you wish to use the services, and haven't already, please send in your completed consent forms now.
Online picture ordering info will be provided after the photos are ready.
VOLUNTEER REGISTRATION
If you wish to volunteer this year, or chaperone a field trip, please register now at:

Please allow one week prior to a field trip or event for processing. Thank you so much; we could not offer fun activities like Great Start without you!
