The engineering tricks of 5 different fort designs are shared in this lesson! Make sure your children are challenged by redefining which building materials and sites they can build on. Then make it miniature by building little "chipmunk" structures with natural materials they find on a hike!

I know that Mr. Schmidt has encouraged kids to explore the instructables.com website. Maybe some of the things there, like the marshmallow launcher in my link, can be of use in your Rube Goldberg Machine!

Rube Goldberg was a cartoonist who made cause and effect inventions that were WAY too complicated to do the simple task they ended with. Just as satisfying as a House of Cards or domino line, these wacky "mousetrap" machines are a fantastic rainy day activity.
