In an effort to assist school districts in implementing safety initiatives more effectively, Region 3 will provide relevant school safety guidance, resources, training opportunities, professional development, technical assistance and TEA updates.

• Things to remember from TxSSC:
• There are NO extensions this year.
• Non-compliance process will start immediately if not submitted on time
  
• If the district has adopted NIMS, put the adoption date in there. If district cannot find it in meeting minutes, put the best guess of the month and year.
• Ensure everywhere that staff training is brought up in your Active Threat and Active Shooter plans that it includes substitute teachers.
• These reviews are taking a long time. Please don’t expect to get them back within a week. It may take a month or longer. TxSSC can only review 1-2 per day (that’s if districts use the current templates).
• Plan on getting it back with some deficiencies. Ask questions if needed, correct the plan, resubmit, and please wait patiently for it to be reviewed again.
• When resubmitting, please do so within 14 days or less of getting your report back.

Please join the Federal School Safety Clearinghouse on October 13 at 2:00 PM EDT for an informational webinar on bullying awareness and prevention resources along with guidance to help create safer school environments. This session will provide information and resources designed for the kindergarten through grade 12 (K-12) school community.

In-Person Bullying vs. Cyberbullying | October 17, 2022 | 10:00am CST

Bullies have always existed, but over time we have seen a shift from the school yard bully to the (more dangerous) cyberbully. Inherently, both forms of bullying are rooted in an imbalance of power, but cyberbullying can often feel more complex and harder to notice. Our Programs Coordinator, Joshua Webb, will dive deep into the impact bullying has on teen’s mental health.
