Mustang News - January 13th, 2023
From The Principal
Now that we are fully immersed into our January schedule, the days are flying by. The new semester promises so many exciting days of learning and experiences for the Mustangs. We look forward to hosting our Welcome Night for Incoming Students, as well as offering school tours in January and February. Report cards are in the mail, so be looking for those to arrive next week. As always, thank you to our amazing students, staff, and community. You continue to make MSHS such a special place to be. Let's work together to make January a successful month!

Parents, Guardians and Students,
MSHS Counselors are excited about Career Start opportunities! Have you heard about the Career Start Program at PPSC (Pikes Peak State College)? The Career Start Program is a concurrent enrollment offering at Pikes Peak State College that provides high school students with opportunities to earn both college and high school elective credit towards a certificate in a vocational setting and immersion to the college environment and expectations. Through this program, students participate in career technical programs that provide hands-on learning environments at the PPSC Centennial Campus as part of their regular school day (Monday- Friday). Students who participate in Career Start attend PPSC in the morning and return to MSHS to complete their high school courses in the afternoon. If your student is on track to graduate and is in 10th or 11th grade and wants to find out more- please encourage them to sign up in the MSHS counseling center by January 13th so we can pull them for an informational session. There are limited slots available. For more information as to what programs are available, click here: https://www.pikespeak.edu/academics/high-school-programs/_hsp-uploads/Career%20Start%20Flyer.pdf
A reminder that the MSHS Counseling Department has several resources that can be found on the MSSD14 Counseling Corner Website. You can check it out here: Counseling Connection Newsletter. Parents and students can access important Naviance videos/tutorials and other valuable resources throughout the year. We encourage you to check this out often to see the updated scholarship list, as well as many other opportunities and resources! We have also added a "Virtual Calming Room" for students to be able to access while at home or when in need.

At the Challenger Learning Center, freshmen scientists and upperclassmen space students completed their simulated mission to Mars and were awarded gold medals on their mission patches. Students used critical thinking to solve a mystery by cracking codes and unlocking locks. Last, students visited the moon, viewing the historic sites of the Apollo lunar landings and learned about NASA’s Artemis program. Thanks again for the generous support from the Challenger Learning Center of Colorado, Blue Origin, Kinder Morgan Foundation, and the local structural consulting company, Criterium-McCafferty Engineers.
