Magyar's Message March 28, 2024
-From The Desk of the Superintendent-
Dear ALCS Families,
Happy Spring Break! I hope all of you have a wonderful, relaxing and safe break. Whether you are going out of town or having a staycation in our beautiful community, enjoy this time with your family and friends. Hopefully Mother Nature cooperates and we enjoy nice weather.
All eyes will be in the sky on April 8 for the historic solar eclipse. The city has done a wonderful job preparing for the event. We cannot predict exactly what will happen that day, but we hope all of you plan ahead for the event. Please remember to wear your safety glasses.
While we are on Spring Break, several national recognitions are on the calendar including National Assistant Principals Week (April 1-5), Paraprofessional Day (April 3), and School Librarian Day (April 4). Thank you to all of our hardworking and dedicated staff members.
March is Music in our Schools Month and many of our talented student musicians participated in a variety of events. Several members of the Learwood seventh and eighth-grade bands earned Superior (I) and Excellent (II) ratings at the Ohio Music Education Association (OMEA) District 4 Junior High Solo and Ensemble Event at Lakewood High School.
A group of Learwood students also participated in the OMEA Honors Festival event at Berea-Midpark High School. We had three orchestra students, four band students, and 12 choir students receive nominations for the opportunity to perform with guest conductors and other top students from local schools in the area.
Avon Lake was well-represented at this year’s Oberlin Choristers Honor Choir. Nearly 80 elementary and Troy Intermediate students participated. Song selection was made by a guest conductor and the students learned the songs over the course of two months. The program culminated with all of the schools invited to participate from around the area (nearly 150 students) coming together to perform the songs.
Thank you again to Jesse Weinberger, our featured speaker from our recent Internet Safety Parent Information Night. She has collected and compiled the data from her visits with our students grades 5-10. We encourage all parents/guardians to read through the data. It is very eye-opening and will make you think about your child’s Internet/cell phone usage. To download and view the entire report, click the PDF file below.
Reminder, please save the date for our State of the Schools Address which is set to take place April 10 from 6:30 to 8 p.m. in the Commons at Avon Lake High School. Please submit any questions you may have in advance so that we can include them in the presentation. To submit a question by April 1, click here. The event will be audio recorded.
Thank you for your continued support of our schools.
Sincerely,
Joelle Magyar
