Student Spotlight
Drammy Awards
Each year, the CHS Drama Club keeps the past tradition of taking over Kowloon and holds its annual Drammy Awards. Students who participated in the fall play and spring production get recognized and honored for their time spent with the Drama Club throughout the years and elect next year's officers.
Peace Pennant
As part of our ongoing response to the challenges our community has faced this year, both inside and out of school, SEL Team at Chelsea High School led a "Peace Pennant" activity. Students made pennant flags affirming their commitment to creating and supporting inclusivity and nonviolence at CHS and in the community. The flags have been displayed in the CHS cafeteria, and we will continue to add more over the next week.
Multi-Lingual Education Celebrates
The Seal of Biliteracy celebration was held last week at CHS, honoring students who have demonstrated proficiency in two or more languages. The Seal of Biliteracy is a prestigious award granted to high school graduates who achieve a high level of fluency in multiple languages. Recipients typically receive a gold seal on their diploma or transcript, symbolizing their achievement. This distinction not only recognizes their linguistic skills but also serves as a valuable asset in college admissions, career opportunities, and global engagement. At CHS, students from diverse cultural backgrounds who met the award’s rigorous criteria were celebrated for their exceptional accomplishments.
Check Out Our Interactive Reading Workshop Poster!
Arlene Velleman’s 5th-period Reading Workshop class at CHS has spent the past three weeks creating an interactive poster that showcases everything they've learned since January.
By scanning the QR codes on the poster, you can access engaging YouTube videos that review key topics from class.
If you’re at CHS, stop by the wall across from room R2017 to scan, watch, and enjoy the work of our talented students!

Yondr - Cell Phone Policy
For the 2025-2026 school year we will be making our school a phone-free, smart device, and ear bud free space to improve teaching and learning using a program called Yondr. Yondr has been implemented in thousands of schools across 27 countries to facilitate an engaged learning environment.
We believe that phones have great utility. We have also found that learning and student mental health improve drastically when students are fully present with their teachers and classmates.
The Yondr Program utilizes a simple, secure pouch that stores a phone. Every student will secure their phone in a personally assigned Yondr pouch when they arrive at school. Students will maintain possession of their phones and will not use them until their pouches are opened at the end of the school day. Students are required to bring their Yondr pouch to and from school each day and are responsible for their pouch at all times.
In an annual survey of over 1,200 of schools that implemented the Yondr Program:
86% saw a positive impact in student safety and wellness
84% saw a positive change in student engagement
72% saw a positive change in student behavior
68% saw a positive change in academic performance
More details and communication around processes and procedures will be shared throughout the summer and into the fall.
Here are the presentations that have been shared with CHS students:

Kindness in the Halls: FINAL Winner!
We’re thrilled to announce this week’s Kindness in the Halls winner: a team/floor who goes out of their way to make our school a more positive place.
Congratulations to RED FLOOR 4!
This week, RED FLOOR 4 staff stood out for consistently greeting others with a smile, saying hello in the hallways, and spreading kindness wherever they go. Their small acts have made a big impact.
Thank you for being a role model of kindness! Let’s keep the kindness going next year, one hallway at a time!

Notice of Searches
We are writing to let you know in advance that out of an abundance of caution, school administration may at times conduct random searches when students arrive at school. We will be using handheld wand metal detector scanners during random searches. Providing a safe and secure learning environment is a top priority. These searches will help us maintain a safe school and an environment where students are free to focus on learning. As a part of our commitment to keeping our school community safe, we will continue to administer random searches.
