King Elementary PTO Newsletter
2024-25 #06

President's Letter
Dear King Community,
Turkey Trot and the Book Fair are coming up quickly! In this newsletter, you will find out how to volunteer for both, and all the information you need to know for Book Fair including how to donate to a classroom ewallet, and how to set up ewallets for your kid(s).
I always say the Silent Auction is the gift that keeps on giving! It's fun to see auction items that you've bid on sprinkled throughout your calendar (Oh cool, I have a "Board Game Night" event to go to this weekend!). Just last weekend there was an event from last school year's Silent Auction- a Charcuterie Making Class (see picture above), at a King home.
It's time to start thinking about what experience you can offer for bidding at this school year's Silent Auction in April! These items are called "Family Experiences" and can be events for the whole family, or just adults! Past experiences have included an outdoor family movie night, yoga class, family photo shoot, delivery of a homemade meal, ladies brunch, paint and pour....the possibilities are endless! Fill out this form with your experience, or contact kingptoauction@gmail.com for any questions or for help brainstorming ideas!
Please join us for our next PTO Meeting via zoom, on November 12th from 6-7pm.

These social events are only made possible by the volunteers who are willing to plan them. Harvest Moon, International Night, Silent Auction, and Ice Cream Social are all in need of chairs/co-chairs to lead the committees for these events for the 2025-26 school year. If you are interested - please email aakingpto@gmail.com.

Teacher Classroom Ewallets
Support our teachers! Help build our teachers' classroom libraries by contributing to their eWallets. Teachers can shop at the Book Fair and pay for their new books with money donated to their eWallets. Find eWallets here: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/e/2PACX-1vRK_-sLiFQnDIn9vGF_bogopJ4CTHf7Fl01H2S4qGrHiQTxz2giFm-7z-Yo-MJgVSH8OkOkqLkY2COX/pubhtml
Student Ewallets
Don't want your child bringing cash with them to school? EWallets are a safe and secure way to shop the fair. Once you set up your eWallet (go to https://www.scholastic.com/bf/kingfall2024 and click on the eWallet “Get Started” button), share your eWallet with friends and family. They can contribute money to the eWallet, which students can use to shop for whatever they’d like. After the Book Fair ends, any remaining eWallet funds are moved to a Gift Card balance.
Parents, you can also shop our Book Fair online from Nov. 18th - Dec. 1st, at this link: https://www.scholastic.com/bf/kingfall2024

King Learning Garden Needs a Lead!!!
The King Learning Garden has been a source of learning and joy for our school and it needs volunteers. Please contact the PTO at aakingpto@gmail.com if you are willing to coordinate any of the following jobs so we can continue this well-loved program:
- Budget and purchasing
- Fall and Spring Work Days, ideally 2 each season
- Spring watering schedule
- Summer garden volunteers coordination
- Prepping the garden for spring classes and fall mulch
- Garden coordination - general garden trouble shooting and maintenance.
Math Club - starts 11/6
Weekly sessions for the King Math Club will begin on Wednesday, November 6th. We invite all 1st through 5th-grade students who have a passion for mathematics and enjoy intellectual challenges to join us.
Register here: https://forms.gle/p3vRoqBDXtRr3xui9
We are also seeking parent volunteers to assist in running the sessions. This year, students will engage with Math Kangaroo exams and tackle problems from Elementary School Math Olympiads. The King Math Club is dedicated to fostering a love of math, promoting strong work habits, and enhancing problem-solving creativity.
For any questions, please reach out to Yunus Zeytuncu at yezeytuncu@gmail.com.
Treasurer's Note
At the start of each school year, we ask for general donations to the PTO.
Our PTO uses these funds to support our students, teachers, and community. Where does the money go?
38% of the money collected goes directly to our teachers to cover the cost of any materials or supplies they may need for their classrooms. Which means you never need to struggle to find every item from a school supply list!
We help fund field trips so our kiddos can have meaningful experiences outside of the classroom.
We fund multiple teacher appreciation events throughout the year, and make sure they are fed dinner on nights they have to stay later, to show our King teachers and staff how much we value them.
We host fun, community gatherings like Bagel Fridays, Harvest Moon Festival, Book Fair, Fun Run, International Night, Ice Cream Social, and the Silent Auction.
We also lend support to our King Learning Garden, the Academic Games, Math Club, and Science Olympiad.
To help us achieve our goals, we recommend a $50-$100 per child donation, but any amount is appreciated.
