Happy St. Patrick's Day to all our COS families!
PORTER RANCH COMMUNITY SCHOOL
PRCS Book Fair
A Porter Ranch Community School Book Fair was a fun week-long event in March. It allowed our students to build home libraries, further their reading and comprehension skills, and often build knowledge and vocabulary. Events like the Book Fair Party for the families created an invaluable chance for kids and families to connect with literature, cultivating a genuine love for reading. A heartfelt thank you to all volunteers and the PTA who invested their time and effort in transforming the Multi-purpose space into a truly fantastic experience!

Beckford's 5th graders went to Wolf Camp located in Simi Valley, CA. The camp focuses on science, team building, and adventure activities. The kids beamed with excitement as they enjoyed nature, spent quality time together and built lasting memories. Every year, the incoming 5th grade students look forward to this momentous trip!
4th Grade Celebrates the California Gold Rush
4th grade held its Pioneer Day which is a culminating celebration of the California Gold Rush unit! Students embodied true gold miners with their plaid shirts and cowboy hats. The Beckford yard transformed into days of yesteryear with fun and engaging activities as they got hands-on experiences adventuring around town. They roped a burro, panned for gold, made berry-ink, did wool carding, soap carving, competed in the potato sack race and so much more. They also got to visit the General Store to claim some fun prizes!
The Leprechaun stops by Beckford!
Last Friday, March 15th Beckford celebrated St. Patrick’s Day a little earlier with a spirit day! Lots of students and staff wore green including our Bulldog school mascot! TK students had a surprise Leprechaun visit. Although luck was not on their side in finding the leprechaun, they were excited to see the tiny leprechaun footprints by their classroom doors.
CHATSWORTH PARK UPD
TK Fashionistas at Chatsworth Park UPD
The Chatsworth Park UPM UTK fashion was a culmination for our clothing study unit. Students started with pillowcases and tie-dyed them. Then they drew out their designs. We cut them for them to make it into the clothing item they wanted. The students used fabric glue to add on anything else they wanted to decorate! Families were invited to come watch the fashion show, complete with red carpet! They concluded this study unit with a parade for the rest of the school the following day.
3rd Grade Historical Figures Wax Museum
Our 3rd Grade Palominos completed their Change Maker Project with a Wax Figure Museum Exhibition. Families were invited to the museum and have conversations with a historical figure such as Jose M. Hernandez, Thomas Edison, George Washington Carver, Abraham Lincoln, Ruth Handler and Mr. Internet!
Chatsworth Park students knows their Community Businesses
1st grade students at Chatsworth Park UPM recently conducted a walking field trip to the community. During the trip, they looked at many businesses in and around the school and photographed businesses.
Students identified the business they wanted to research to determine whether it was an asset or liability to the community. Each student was asked to construct a model of their chosen business.
All of the student’s models were showcased at a school-wide Project Based Learning day. At the conclusion of the activity, the models were gives to the businesses they represented where they are proudly displayed.
SUPERIOR ST. ELEMENTARY
Superior Street 5th Grade Student's Overnight Excursion
Amazing! Awesome! Fun! Just a few of the words our Superior Street students used to describe their recent adventure. Our 5th grade students along with their teachers and a few brave parent volunteers had an unforgettable 3-day overnight camping field trip to WOLF Adventures in Moorpark. Teamwork, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills were all put to use as the group studied wildlife, played outdoor games, and went hiking both day and night! They built working model boats, crafted shell necklaces, and of course made s’mores. Our 5th grade students left with team building skills, a respect for nature, and memories of a very special experience.
