Principal Message
Dear Parents and Guardians,
A cold week has come to an end. Our students had many indoor "Polar Bear" recesses, where some took the opportunity to go outside, while others played in the gym, and some stayed in their classroom. When the temperature reaches -20 with or without wind chill it is an inside recesses unless students have their "Polar Bear" permission forms in and are properly attired in boots, gloves, hats, and coats.
This week also marks the release of our School Continuous Improvement Plan. A school continuous improvement plan outlines the central focus for school improvement for the year. The decisions made are based on collected data and best teaching practices. For the last number of years Wildwood School has been focused on improving our student's understanding of literacy, and we have seen continuous improvement in that area. This year we made the decision as a staff to take a target look at math. The data tells us that the gaps student's have in math knowledge compound over the years, and that we need to address these gaps to ensure students have a solid base as they continue in school. Our teachers are using a variety of strategies including full class instruction and targeted intervention to help students meet this goal. We also implemented specific digital learning programs at all ages, Khan Academy and Mathia Adventures. Please see our complete SCIP linked below and available on our school website.
If you have any questions or concerns you can always reach out to the school through the office or email me at alanstoy@gypsd.ca.
Sincerely,
Alan Stoyles
Principal
