Help With Attendance Communication
Thank you so much for keeping us informed when your child needs to stay home from school. As part of our increased safety measures this year, we are taking attendance earlier in the day and will notify families if a student is marked absent and we have not yet heard from a parent. While you are welcome to loop in the teacher of your student, please make sure you are communicating with the front office by either emailing amy.bull@siskiyouschool.org or calling 541-482-8223 ext. 14 before the school day begins whenever possible. Amy will also notify the teacher once she has received your message.
When leaving a phone message, please speak clearly and provide your child’s first and last name, grade, the date, and the reason for their absence. This helps us ensure that we have accurate records. Thank you for your help with this!

The Waldorf School: What are we Trying to Do with Your Children?
It is impossible for us to know what the world will be like when today's children are called on to accept responsibility for our society and our planet. The only thing that we know for certain is that they will inherit a world steeped in complexity. To live a life filled with meaning and purpose and still to meet the challenges of a rapidly changing world, they will need a wide array of capacities: physical health, emotional sensitivity and resilience, and above all a truly sound creative intelligence. This requires teachers to care for all of the faculties of the human soul and that's easier said than done and a big reason why our schools seem so different. Come join us and hear more about the critical work that's going on behind the scenes.

If you have a child that would join next year's Siskiyou School Kindergarten or First Grade class, please email their name, date of birth, and current school to Kristin at kristin.beers@siskiyouschool.org. We'll begin enrollment for next academic year mid to late October, but we'd love to have you on our list to ensure you get our initial enrollment email.
Please note, children must be 5 years old by June 1st of 2025 for Kindergarten or 6 years old for First Grade. Thank you!
Trailer Needed for Pumpkin Delivery
We're looking for someone to help make our pumpkin patch magically sprout pumpkins! Each year for our Halloween celebration the children in 1st through 8th grade carve pumpkins that light up Pine Hall. We need help with the transportation of the pumpkins from Shop N Kart to the ACORN Garden on Monday, October 28 at 8:30 a.m. Ideally, we would have a truck with a flatbed trailer onto which the folks at Shop N Kart forklift the tub of pumpkins. It's generally 2 trips to get all the pumpkins to campus. If you have a trailer and would like to help, please let us know! Email kristin.beers@siskiyouschool.org or call 541-482-8223. Thank you!
Oregon Battle of the Books
THE BATTLE IS ON! After an amazing year last year, where our school's fifth grade team “The Explosions” placed fifth at the state battle, out of over 6,500 teams, Oregon Battle of the Books (OBOB) is coming back to The Siskiyou School! OBOB is a statewide voluntary reading motivation and comprehension program sponsored by the Oregon Association of School Libraries and Library Services and Technology Act grant. Students in 3rd-8th grade regardless of ability, are exposed to quality literature representing a variety of literary styles and viewpoints.
OBOB’s mission is to encourage and recognize students who enjoy reading, to broaden reading interests, to increase reading comprehension, promote academic excellence, and to promote cooperative learning and teamwork among students. Students will form teams, read at least 4 books (up to 16) and compete in battles with the support of a parent coach. Reading, team meetings, and battles will occur outside of school hours. To learn more about OBOB please view their website at www.oregonbattleofthebooks.org or reach out to Amy Bull at amy.s.bull@gmail.com, and keep an eye out for the student permission slips along with more detailed information. Permission slips for students to participate are due no later than October 25th. Parent Coaches are needed! We need awesome adults to help lead the teams, please let Amy know if you'd like to help with this amazing program.
Support for Waldorf schools in the Southeast
Hurricane Helene has caused unprecedented disaster and tragedy for Asheville. Yet, as Rudolf Steiner said, in the face of hard trials, we are called to rise to something new.

Starfish Class - 4th Grade
I wanted to take a moment to share how much hard work and fun the 4th grade has been having as we dive deep into our study of Local Geography. It has been such a joy to watch the students engage in learning about the land we live on, mapping our area, and exploring the beauty around us.
We’ve had some fantastic adventures hiking Grizzly Peak, Upper Table Rock, and Roxy Ann. These outings have not only given the students a chance to see the landscapes they've been studying, but they've also provided wonderful opportunities for teamwork, discovery, and connecting with nature.
The students are showing such enthusiasm and dedication, and I’m so proud of how they are embracing both the challenges and the joys of learning about our local environment!
Warmly, Mrs. Cooley
