Te Karere o te Tumuaki/Principal's Message
Kia ora e te whānau,
There is definitely an autumnal feeling in the air but haven't we been fortunate to have weather that has seen tamariki enjoying the pool and our fabulous outdoor environment. This week has been particularly exciting with an overnight camp, surfing and triathlon events and a trip to Reotahi. Teachers and tamariki are also preparing for our whānau hui towards the end of the term. It's great to see that so many of you have booked a slot to meet with your child's teacher and discuss their learning so far. If you haven't yet done so, please make a time.
Previously I have mentioned about the governments focus on attendance and although we have had a bit of illness around, we have 237 of our tamariki who are meeting the goal of attending more than 90% of the time. Research shows that the more tamariki attend school regularly, the greater likelihood of positive outcomes and better achievement.
There has been a lot of media attention regarding Lunches in Schools since the changes to this initiative. I would like to point out that we are fortunate to have continued with our current provider - Subway - as our contract with them runs until the end of this year. In addition, I would like to give a very big shout out to Dan Weaver from Weaver Group who supplies our lunches, for his generous support for the school. Over the years he has provided food for school camps, and Matariki celebrations, as well as ensuring our tamariki have access to high quality kai. We are grateful for this support and value this partnership.
Thank you all for the support you show our staff, students and the school as a whole.

Junior and Middle school Triathlons
We couldn't let the seniors have all the fun in the pool, so on Wednesday the 19th the NEST (Junior school) held their triathlon event. This included a pool challenge, followed by a scooter track, and finished off with a run.
Then, not to be outdone, on Thursday the 20th, our Middle school held their triathlon event. Once again the start was in the pool, with students completing a lap before they were off to cycle round the bike track, or scooter the courts. Finishing off with a good run.
We were so impressed with the give-it-a-go attitude our ākonga showed on these two days, and thank all the whanau who came along to watch and support.
Safe Arrivals at School
Our 2025 Road Patrollers have been learning the ropes for the past few weeks and are looking forward to a year of keeping our tamariki safe as they cross this busy road.
(Pro Tip: When our patrollers put out our signs, they will also put their hands out. This is to give them time to check cars have stopped. When they drop their arms it's safe to cross)
How you can help them do this important mahi is to be mindful of your speed and please obey the 40km/hr limit along Church St. We also ask that you do not turn into or block the driveway access, to our staff only carpark. If you are needing to cross the road on Church St, please be a great role model for our tamariki and use the pedestrian crossing also. Parking on yellow lines can block our road patrollers sight lines so please avoid parking over these. Performing a U-turn in Pine Park Road can also put our students at risk as many cross this road in the morning. Using the end of the cul-de-sac is a good option for turning around.
Honey
Once again, in 2025 we have honey available for purchase at the school office. Honey has been kindly donated by our partner beekeepers - Tahi honey, and we have further been gifted larger sized jars of Honeyeater honey - also from local Pataua hives. The honey is priced amazingly from $5 per jar to $20 (the big 1 kg jars) so why not pop in and pick some up.
2nd hand Uniform
We have a reasonable amount of smaller sized shirts at the moment, though it could all change at any time. The larger sizes have gone again! If your child has outgrown their uniform and you have no further need of it, please feel free to drop it in to the school office. The sales of these help the school purchase additional items that our former PTA used to supply, such as sunscreen, etc. If you ARE on the hunt for new uniform, we have a large stock in all sizes at present of school jumpers and jackets, for the bargain sale price of just $5 each (while stocks last).

Also, with the pool open for Term 1, a reminder to all to check which day your tamariki has pool time scheduled and please remember to pack named togs and towel and (optional) goggles for these days.

We also ask that every effort is made to arrive at school in time for learning at 9am.
IMPORTANT NOTICES/TINO PANUI NUI
Medication: If your child requires medication to be brought or kept at school, please be aware that due to health and safety concerns, this must be kept secure in the school sick bay. It is not to be kept in children’s schoolbags during the day. This is to protect the safety of not only the child requiring the medication but also all other students. All medication requires an accompanying permission/approval form signed by their parent or caregiver. Kia ora,

This camp will take place on the 14th-15th pf April between 9am and 3pm and is targeted for children born between 2011-2016.
