SECOND STEP BULLYING PREVENTION CURRICULUM
This year all Davis Richmond students will once again be instructed in bullying prevention using the Second Step Bullying Prevention Curriculum. The Bullying Prevention unit consists of 5 lessons that teach kids how to recognize, report, and refuse bullying. Students also learn to tell the difference between conflict and bullying. Bullying is defined as mean or hurtful behavior that keeps happening, is one sided and occurs in a relationship that has an imbalance of power, and the bullied student has not been able to make it stop.
Additionally, Richmond 3rd-5th graders will receive additional instruction on preventing cyber bullying through the Second Step Unit and the Learning Resource Center. As a one student to one device school, we are dedicated to preventing cyberbullying. We ask parents to partner with us by remaining diligent in monitoring student’s use of electronic devices at home. DAVIS PRIMARY NEWS
HEARING AND VISION SCREENINGS
Adequate vision and hearing are paramount to educational performance. Impaired vision and/or hearing in children can seriously impede learning and contribute to the development of educational, emotional, and behavioral problems. Early discovery and treatment can prevent or at least alleviate many of these problems.
Therefore, Hearing and Vision Screenings will be conducted the week of October 21st for all current K - 2 students. Any students for whom we have concerns will receive a letter home.
Kdg - All will be screened for hearing. The students without a required vision exam will be screened for vision.
1st grade - Hearing only for new students (new to district and new to Illinois) and students receiving special education services (IEP)
2nd grade - Hearing and Vision for all
Please make sure that if your child wears glasses, they bring them for the week of screening.
