Student Spotlight
Polar Plunge
We are so proud of our school community for raising - drum roll please, as of 4:30 pm today, over $13,061 for Special Olympics Massachusetts through our Polar Plunge event led by the GHS Student Council! We had more than 227 individuals and 23 teams plunge into a 2,800-gallon trailer called "Bear Force One" filled with cold water.
The money we raised through the Polar Plunge will help to fund Special Olympics Massachusetts programs based on inclusion for students with learning disabilities.
Thank you to our students, Ms. Mass and Shane Toomey, 12th grader for leading this project, the faculty and staff, and the entire school and Greenfield community for your donations and for helping our students pass their original $5,000 fundraising goal!
To Plunge or not to Plunge? That was the Question!
Auburn Mass, 11th grader, receiving the award for top individual fundraiser for the Polar Plunge - $800! WOW! Great job!
Student Athlete of the Week - Jordan Breor
Jordan is a fantastic student in class and a great friend to her classmates. She has begun branching out of her comfort zone. She was amazing at the Bocce Tournament and we are so proud of this achievement!
Student Council Bocce Tournament
Greenfield High School's Unified Bocce Team took to the road on Friday, January 24, 2025 and spent the day competing with other schools on the bocce courts. Over 40 GPS students participated in this event and a good time was had by all!
GMS Compliment Tree!
GHS Project 351 Ambassador
Project 351 was founded in 2011 to celebrate, learn, and demonstrate the transformative impact of eighth graders in service. Greenfield Public Schools has been a part of this service project for many years and continues to do so. This year's Project 351 8th grade Ambassador is Jennessa Fuentes! Jennessa traveled to Boston on Saturday, January 25, 2025 to join the other 350 8th grade ambassadors from across the state to share in leadership and school-based movements for positive change. Students were joined by Governor Maura Healey, Lt. Governor Kim Driscoll, MA Secretary of Education Patrick Tutwiler and other community leaders for a day of service and celebration.
Jennessa spent her afternoon volunteering at La Colaborativa in Chelsea, MA making hygiene kits and fleece blankets as well as handing out groceries to families. She commented that, "It was amazing and I like helping others. It was great to meet new friends and other people who also like helping out!"
GPS is so proud of Jennessa and the impact this young adult's work has on our school, local and state communities. Congratulations on a job well-done!
Nurse's Notes
The CDC recommends that you stay home and away from others (including people you live with who are not sick) if you have respiratory virus symptoms that aren't better explained by another cause. These symptoms can include fever, chills, fatigue, cough, runny nose, and headache, among others.
1. You can go back to your normal activities when, for at least 24 hours, both are true:
2. Your symptoms are getting better overall; and
3. You have not had a fever (and are not using fever-reducing medication).
When you go back to your normal activities, take added precautions over the next 5 days, such as wearing a face mask when you will be around other people indoors.
1. Keep in mind that you may still be able to spread the virus that made you sick, even if you are feeling better. You are likely to be less contagious at this time, depending on factors like how long you were sick or how sick you were.
2. If you develop a fever or you start to feel worse after you have gone back to normal activities, stay home and away from others again until, for at least 24 hours, both are true: your symptoms are improving overall, and you have not had a fever (and are not using fever-reducing medication). Then take added precautions for the next 5 days.
