October 3, 2024 Habit of the Month: Be Proactive
A Word from Mrs. Douglas,
Happy October Bosco Students and Families!
What a wonderful start we have had to our school year! Our students came back to school ready to grow in their Faith, ready to learn, ready to strengthen themselves physically, and ready to grow socially! Our K-8 students are full of joy and enthusiasm!
We are right in the thick of the Fun Run! We just love this fundraiser because of its alignment to our Mission Statement and Leader in Me Habits. During the “Castle Quest” students have been learning about the traits of “Focus”, “Self-Awareness”, “Respect”, “Trustworthiness”, “Creativity”, and being a “Life-Learner”. And of course, to be on a “Castle Quest to save Castle Bravemore” it takes a lot of COURAGE, our word of the year!
We are looking forward to the Fun Run on Friday and hope to see you there if you can make it!
Next week is conference week. I would like to extend a PERSONAL INVITATION to all of you to attend parent-teacher conferences. Our opening statement in our mission is “With support from families…” and this is one of the best opportunities to come together with your student and his or her teachers to synergize and all be on the same page to support your child Spiritually, Academically, Physically, and Socially.
I wish you a blessed October and hope that you have the time to enjoy as many fall activities as you can. It is one of the best times of year!
In Christ,
Mrs. Douglas
Field Trip Fun
On September 27 the middle school students went on a field trip to Dubuque. They started their day at the National Mississippi River Museum. There were a lot of fun and interactive displays. A favorite among many of the students was touching the sting rays. Then students went to Crystal Lake where they toured and learned a lot about the caves. They got a tour and learned a lot about the cave. The guides at both the museum and the cave commented on how well-behaved and engaged our students were. This was made possible at no cost to the students because of the Fun Run.

Fall Conferences
What our Teachers Have to Say
One of the many reasons that I love being a part of BCSS is that the support from families is not only promoted, but expected. "With support from families..." is predominant as the first line in our school's mission statement. Parents, as a child's first teacher, play a crucial role in supporting their child's education for several reasons:
**Emotional Support**
Children thrive in an environment where they feel encouraged and understood. Parental involvement boosts their confidence and motivation.
**Establishing Routines**
Parents can help create a consistent study routine, which fosters good habits and time management skills.
**Communication with Teachers**
Engaging positively with educators helps parents stay informed about their child's progress and any challenges they may face, allowing for timely interventions.
**Reinforcing Learning**
Parents can extend learning beyond the classroom by engaging in educational activities at home, such as reading together or exploring new topics of interest.
**Modeling Lifelong Learning**
When parents demonstrate a positive attitude toward education, children are more likely to value learning and pursue knowledge throughout their lives.
**Resource Access**
Parents can provide access to books, technology, and extracurricular activities that enhance educational experiences.
**Building Relationships**
Active involvement helps children develop strong relationships with their parents, which can improve their emotional well-being and academic performance.
**Advocacy**
Parents who are active in thier child's education can positively advocate for their child's needs within the school system, ensuring they receive appropriate resources and support.
By participating in their child's education, parents not only support academic success but also foster a love of learning and a strong family bond.
