LOTS OF IMPORTANT STUFF THIS WEEK
Parent Board Meeting Tomorrow
Please join us for Parent Board tomorrow night, Tuesday, October 8, 7:00-8:00, in the Linworth Big Room.
At that meeting, we will discuss many topics, including Camp Christian, lockdown drills, quarter ending, and HAGPIE.
Every family is part of the Parent Board. There is no fee (or initiation, haha) involved.
The Coffee Truck is Coming!
Parent Board is providing free hot drinks for students on Wednesday, October 9, 8:30-10:30.
Thank you Parent Board (that's all of you reading this)!
Linworth Parent-Student-Teacher Conferences
Linworth conferences are different. Because we value participating in a wholistic picture of the personal and academic experience occurring, all teachers will be in the meeting. To maximize spots, we have two conferences happening concurrently, creating 40 slots, with teachers moving from one place to the other. When you arrive to the Zoom conference, I will move you to a Meeting Room, where teachers will join you. You are also welcome to email teachers in lieu of a conference. Email addresses are below.
Linworth Parent-Student-Teacher Conferences are Wednesday, October 9, and Monday, October 14. All conferences will be held virtually.
Sign-up is here: Linworth Parent-Student-Teacher Conferences
"Full Scale" Safety Drill This Thursday
The safety and well-being of our students, staff, and community are always our top priorities in Worthington Schools. Research and experience show that when students and staff are well-prepared through knowledge and practice, they can respond effectively to emergency situations. This is why we continuously engage in safety routines, drills, and learning to support the safety of everyone in our schools.
Historically, our schools have participated in several important safety drills:
Fire Drills: These drills teach students and staff how to report fire hazards and safely evacuate the building using multiple exits.
Weather Drills: These drills help everyone stay calm and safe during weather-related events, such as tornadoes, by identifying and using sheltered spaces within the building.
Lock-Down Drills: These drills prepare us for situations where free movement within the school is restricted due to external disturbances or unauthorized visitors. They involve securing the school perimeter, classrooms, and common areas to keep everyone safe.
Rally-Point Drills: These drills focus on safely exiting the building in cases of emergencies like a gas leak or unsafe visitor, and moving to a predetermined safe space away from the school.
In addition to these drills, Ohio law requires public schools to conduct a "Full Scale" Safety Drill every three years. This comprehensive drill combines elements of the previously practiced drills and includes a controlled classroom lockdown, as well as a simulated evacuation to move students away from the building in the event of danger.
Our staff has been trained in the ALICE (Alert, Lockdown, Inform, Counter, Evacuate) emergency response model, which includes additional countermeasures during a lockdown to facilitate a safe evacuation to a Rally Point. In the event of an emergency requiring relocation, students would be transported to a designated "reunification" location. The Linworth reunification location is Linworth Baptist Church.
In October, we will provide instructions and practice opportunities for students across our schools to prepare for a Full Scale Safety Drill. By being well-prepared for unplanned interruptions, we aim to build confidence and ensure the ultimate safety of our students. We know that when students feel safe and understand safety protocols, they can better focus on their learning.
Thank you for your continued support and partnership in keeping our schools safe.
All-school Overnight Camp
Last Wednesday, we met in Family Groups to communicate all of the hard and soft information needed regarding camp.
I will host a meeting tomorrow night to answer any questions you may have (see above).
Let me know if you have any questions.
Camp is an annual, all-school overnight for all students. At Camp, we have several community-building activities (which is awesome), enjoy meals (not necessarily awesome) together, and have fun as a group (awesome, again), sharing time with all grade levels.
Attending Camp is an important part of the Linworth experience. We will leave the morning of Thursday, October 17, on buses to Camp Christian in beautiful Magnetic Springs. Although it has a religious name and is owned by a national church, we do not observe any religion or religious activities.
In terms of participation, you have two options. Over 90% of families plan to have their student spend the night. You may also elect to pick up your student from camp Thursday night (the Talent Show ends at 11:00 p.m.; text Chris at 614-579-0727 for details).
We will return to Linworth by bus on Friday morning (October 18), around 11:00 a.m.; there is no school on Friday.
There is a $35.00 fee to cover the cost of food and lodging. It will be posted to MyPaymentsPlus soon and will include Free & Reduced options. Contact Chris if you need financial assistance.
Students needing medication while at camp are required to have the form HERE (we'll have hard copies at the meeting tomorrow night) filled out for each medication and in the original bottle with prescription label. All medication is administered by staff and will be returned to students when we arrive at school on Friday. Refer all questions to Amy K (akargiotis@wscloud.org or 614-450-6900).
Students will need to bring:
· Sleeping bag or bed roll
· Flashlight
· Pillow
· Appropriate clothing (a complete change of clothing/warm clothes)
· Toiletry Articles
· Snacks
· Sack lunch for Thursday
Students may NOT bring gaming systems, tablets, computer, etc.
Please complete the Camp Permission Form.

Online Course Options
Families have requested information about online courses students can take outside our district over the summer and/or throughout the year to make sure they are on track with credits for participation in Walkabout during their last semester at Linworth. This is a reminder Worthington accepts transfer credit from accredited programs; links to the more popular platforms utilized are included here: Treca (offering a 9-week winter term option), BYU, and Apex.
Coursework taken outside our district are considered transfer credits; the course and grade is included on the student's Worthington transcript, but does not calculate into the cumulative GPA. See Laura prior to registering for any coursework.
