Be Respectful, Be Responsible, Be Kind, Be Safe
March 7th
Mt Peak Family,
It’s been a fantastic week at Mt. Peak! Our 4th graders put on an incredible performance, showcasing their talents through song solos, keyboard playing, and group dancing—it was such a joy to watch! We also took time to celebrate our amazing Education Diagnosticians, Mrs. Perez and Mrs. Jouett. Their dedication and hard work make a huge difference for our students, and we are so grateful to have them on our campus. This week, we also had a blast celebrating Read Across America, dressing up as our favorite book characters and embracing the joy of reading. Our Read-A-Thon is going strong, with over $7,000 raised so far—thank you for your support! With one week to go, let’s keep the momentum going. Be sure to check out our Book Character Tissue Box contest winner in the video below, and don’t forget, yearbooks are on sale now! You can find ordering details in the "Next Week at the Peak" section.
As we head into Spring Break, I hope you all take time to relax, enjoy family time, and love on those kids. They grow up in a hurry, and you don’t get this time back—make the most of it! Have a wonderful and restful break!

This Week at the Peak
This was Texas Educational Diagnosticians’ Week! We celebrate these hard working professionals who play a crucial role in identifying student needs, supporting learning differences, and advocating for every child’s success. Thank you Mrs. Perez and Mrs. Jouett for all you do to help our Peak students!
I wanted to share how impressed I am with the students' recent project, “Defending the Villain.” In this assignment, the students were tasked with re-telling a fairy tale from the villain’s perspective, justifying their actions and providing descriptive and reasonable reasons for why they acted the way they did. The students had to write, rehearse, and then perform their short speeches in front of the class.
I’m thrilled to report that they did a fantastic job! The students not only embraced the challenge, but they also enjoyed the creative process so much that they didn’t complain once about having to write. They really brought the villains to life and made strong, thoughtful arguments in their performances.
Third grade students had so much fun bringing their biography project to life, and it was truly amazing to see how each child found unique ways to showcase interesting tidbits about the person they researched using the “Who Was” Series.
Dress like your favorite character day was so much fun in Mrs. Fleischman's class!
For Read Across America, Mrs. Fleischman's class had the honor of having Ms. Chris Page, Teagan 's grandmother and our former Pre-K teacher, Ms. Christy come read us a story.
We had two special guest readers for Read Across America Week. Mrs. Williams, a MPE grandmother and our former Pre-K teacher, Ms. Christy. We enjoyed the books they shared with us!! We also had a fun time with the Dr. Seuss stations in library and in class!
The past couple of weeks in PE we have been learning all about jump roping. Kids went from learning the basic jump, where they focused on timing and rhythm to jump smoothly over the rope. The older kids had fun practicing the more advanced techniques such as Criss-Crossing their arms while jumping, buddy jumping, Double Dutch jump and some jump rope tricks. The younger kiddos enjoyed learning the basic jump along with making letters out of the rope that ultimately spelled the word "JUMP". Coach also had them make some shapes; the heart was one of them. It has been a JumpTastic week in P.E.
This week was Read Across America Week. This week not only celebrates Dr. Seuss on his birthday but all authors who give us books we love!
This week students did special makerspace stations in the library or Dr. Seuss bingo for books, had guest readers come in to class and special dress up days. There was also a daily game called “The Masked Reader” where a mystery staff member read a book a gave clues on who they were
Congratulations to our winners of the Book Character Tissue Box Contest.

DOGS - Dads of Great Students
We are excited to share an opportunity to get involved with the school through our Father Figure volunteer group, DOGS. This group steps in to help whenever the need arises, whether it's assisting with the drop-off car line on Friday mornings or giving our staff a break during particularly cold or rainy weather. The commitment is flexible—you don't need to be there every Friday, but when you can participate, the kids and staff truly appreciate it.
We'll also have various opportunities throughout the school year to help out with setting up for school events. It's a great way to make a positive impact, and the kids love seeing the dads and father figures involved.
If you'd like to join, please click [this link] to sign up.
Background Checks
While completing a background check isn't mandatory, it's always a good idea to have one on file in case an event comes up that requires volunteer help inside the school. You can complete the Volunteer Background Check here.
If you have any questions or comments, feel free to email Mr. Henke at adam.henke@midlothianisd.org.
We would love to see a strong group of men involved at Mt. Peak, so please consider signing up!
We would love you to follow along during the week for updates of what is happening at Mt Peak. You can follow along on Facebook There is an imposter site. So, please follow the one with a picture of the school in the header.

Letter from the Counselor
Counselor's Corner
It is hard to believe that Spring Break is upon us! We have had an eventful week between the weather and the loss of electricity in our building on Tuesday afternoon. I have had the opportunity to work with students this week in regards to making positive choices and working in cooperative groups. I hope that all of you have an enjoyable and relaxing Spring Break as it will be a busy time up return. We appreciate you and your support.

Capturing Kids Hearts
March's Leadworthy Character Trait is Courage
What is Courage?
Courage is the ability and strength to face something that may be difficult or challenging. Courage is not the absence of fear but rather perseverance in the presence of fear and the willingness to stand up for what is right or try something new, even though it may be uncomfortable or uncertain.
Why focus on Courage?
- Courage encourages engagement. Courage helps students raise their hands, participate, try new things, and voice their opinions.
- Courage builds self-confidence. Courage is the choice to act. By doing something, students increase their belief in themselves and their ability to do difficult or challenging things.
- Courage can help reframe a negative. When something does not go as planned, or a student gets upset about a mistake or failure, courage can help reframe the event in a positive light.
Courage in Action:
- Provide leadership opportunities. Students can learn and demonstrate leadership by teaching and mentoring others, classroom roles and responsibilities, or community outreach.
- Encourage discussion and debate. Foster curiosity and empower students to formulate ideas and engage in respectful discourse and conversations.
- Celebrate failures. Create opportunities to reduce fear of failure and celebrate when students try something new, even if they are not successful the first time.

HB 3 required parent notice on practicing safe firearm storage
All Texas school districts are required by law to distribute information to parents and guardians about the safe storage of firearms. House Bill 3, Section 19 added Section 37.222 to the Texas Education Code, which requires the Texas School Safety Center, in collaboration with the Texas Department of Public Safety, to provide information and resources to school districts for the purpose of disseminating the information to parents. The Texas DPS launched a Keep ‘Em Safe Texas website that provides safety resources, materials, and tips for practicing safe gun storage to prevent accidents and keep children safe. Remember, a gun should be stored unloaded in a safe or locked container, with ammunition stored elsewhere. You can learn more and find additional resources from the Texas Department of Public Safety at https://safegunstoragetexas.com.
Help Guides to Assist Parents/Students with District Resources
Below are resources that have been previously shared with parents/students with accessing and logging in to district resources. As we approach mid year we wanted to share them again.
UPDATE this
Bus Rider Contracts required annually
Does your student need MISD school bus transportation? All students must have a current Bus Rider Contract on file for each year. All contracts received by the July 12 deadline will secure route information and transportation for the first week of school. Contracts received after July 12 are being processed on a first come, first served basis and transportation is not guaranteed for the first week of school.
If you have not submitted a contract for your student, please fill one out and return to the Transportation Department by emailing to bus_contracts@midlothianisd.org or by delivering to 601 E. Avenue E, Midlothian. Please remember that your student cannot ride the bus until their contract is processed.
Free and Reduced Lunch Information!

You may have received this information directly from your campus, but we want to ensure all MISD families know about an update and opportunity from our Child Nutrition Department. Please disregard this message if you have already applied for free/reduced-price school meals for the 2023-24 school year.
Students who participated in the free/reduced-price meals program during the previous school year in Midlothian ISD could continue receiving free/reduced-price meals for the first 30 days of school. This 30-day grace period has now ended, and a new application must be submitted. Students will no longer receive free/reduced-price meals without application approval for the 2023-24 school year.
Please click here to visit the MISD Child Nutrition Department website for more information on school meals and to apply for the free/reduced-price meals program.
