A MESSAGE FROM CYMS
Greetings CYMS Families,
It's been wonderful seeing students settle into their routines over the last few weeks. We are excited to announce that CYMS is launching a Science Olympiad team this year—an incredible chance for students to dive deeper into science. More information about joining is provided below.
Please remember that this Friday is a half day for students. Dismissal will be at 11:30 AM, so please plan accordingly. Students cannot ride a friend's bus home on half days.
Students can sign up for a bagged lunch to take home on all half days. Students should check their school email for the link. The sign-up will close on Tuesday, September 17th.
Additionally, we will offer a Homework Club starting on September 23rd. This after-school program will provide students with dedicated time to complete academic work under the guidance of CYMS teachers. More details and a permission slip are included below.
Thank you for your continued support. Let’s keep this momentum going for a great year ahead!
With Panther Pride,
Mr. Jerry Eisner
Principal

SCHOOL NEWS
NEW OPPORTUNITY FOR STUDENTS: SCIENCE OLYMPIAD
There is a new opportunity coming to Central Middle School - SCIENCE OLYMPIAD. Science Olympiad offers rigorous academic competitions that consist of a series of team events, which students prepare for during the year. These events are well balanced between the various science disciplines of biology, earth science, chemistry, physics and technology. There is also a balance between events requiring knowledge of science concepts, process skills and science applications.
If a student is interested and would like to learn more about this competitive opportunity, QR codes can be found on the orange posters outside the guidance office and Mrs. Eisenhart room (#35). If you have questions, please contact Mr. Sapir in room #36. (gsapir@cysd.k12.pa.us )
HOMEWORK CLUB BEGINS SEPT. 23
Homework Club ends at 4:00 PM on Mondays.
Students MUST have a ride home. (NO Activity Bus)
Homework Club ends at 5:00 PM on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays.
Students may be picked up or ride the activity bus home. If you are more than 5 minutes late picking up your child, they will ride the activity bus home.
*See permission slip for activity bus routes and ensure your child knows the correct stop.*
IMPORTANT STUDENT PICK UP REMINDER
If your child needs to be picked up early from school, the adult picking them up must be listed in your child's Skyward account. If they are not listed, the parent must notify the school office in advance via phone, email, or written note.
To avoid any delays, please take a moment to update your child's emergency contact information in Skyward. This will ensure a smooth and safe pickup process.
JOIN THE PANTHER PEN STAFF!
Creative students who like to write and keep up with school happenings are invited to join our middle school staff that designs the annual yearbook and helps with school email updates. We meet after school two Tuesdays per month to apply our talents and skills on these real-world products. To join, fill out the application on this form or look for the QR code on the morning slides. Questions? Contact Mrs. Brown in room 12 on Team Ocelot or Mrs. Carlisle in room 9 on Team Cheetah.
CYSD DEVICE PROTECTION PLAN
Central York School District offers optional protection plans for your child’s district-issued devices.
The protection plan fully covers your child’s device for any accidental damage that occurs. The cost is $25 per year for iPads and $60 per year for Macbooks.
HEALTH RECORD UPDATE: DENTAL EXAM
In 7th grade, all students are required by the State of Pennsylvania to have proof of a dental visit. Your child’s school health record may be missing this documentation. If you have not already done so, please provide proof of a private dental exam for the 7th grade school year to fulfill this state requirement.
Private Dental Exam Instructions: Please download and return the private dental form below after your dentist has completed it. It can be faxed to the Middle School FAX 717-755-5914. Any visit in the past year can count. For example: a dental visit in the past year while your child was still in 6th grade can be used to fulfill this requirement.
Thank you in advance for allowing us to help keep your child healthy! We look forward to updating their school health record and assisting you as needed. Please contact the health office with any questions or concerns at 717-846-6789 ext. 1520, or bkopelic@cysd.k12.pa.us.
Respectfully,

Mrs. Borsa's class participates in five events to make up the Metric Olympics. In this event, the students try to throw the paper plate discus for the greatest distance and measure in centimeters.
MS. RE'S 8TH GRADE SCIENCE
Students move throughout stations in order to practice measuring in metric units. In the picture, groups measure each other using centimeters.
ATHLETICS
ATHLETIC EVENTS REMINDERS
All elementary and middle school students must be accompanied by and supervised by an adult at all times when attending any CYSD after-school athletic event. CYMS FOOTBALL
CYMS FIELD HOCKEY
On Monday, September 9th the middle school field hockey team played against the West York Bulldogs and won with a score of 3-0. They had fourteen shots on goal and nine offensive corners. The goals were scored by Kara Stern and Sophia Sweeney.
The team also played on Wednesday, September 11th against Spring Grove. This was the teams' first home game of the season. The A team tied 0-0. The A team played hard, showed improvements in their game play, and never gave up. The B team lost 0-1. The B Team goalie, Ali Naugle, blocked thirteen goals from being scored, and even stopped a ball on a Stroke shot. A stroke is when the other team gets a penalty shot one to one against the goalie.
The team played a third game against the Mechanicsburg Wild Cats. The game was fast paced, the panthers fought hard but came up short of the win. The A team goalie, Alaina Birnie, saved eight goals from being scored during the first game. Ali Naugle saved ten goals in the second game.
The team has two games this week. They play the Northeastern Bobcats on Tuesday at Northeastern in the stadium at 4:15. On Wednesday, they will be home against the Lions from Red Lion at 4:15.
