We hope and pray that you'll celebrate May Crowning and have a memorable encounter with Christ through the Virgin Mary this May. This will also occur at Holy Family Community Church at the selected Dansville, Perkinsville, and Cohocton masses. We invite families to attend to honor Mary in this special way. We encourage you to attend mass and join in the celebration.
At its simplest, May Crowning is a ritual celebrated in May. A statue of Mary is crowned with a wreath of flowers and honored as the Queen of Heaven and the Mother of God.
The children are invited to place a wreath on Mary's head.
After the procession, a crown of flowers is placed on the head of a statue of Mary. Prayers usually follow it, and hymns centered around Mary. The flowers are generally replaced throughout the rest of the month to keep them fresh.
While Mary, the Mother of God, is revered and celebrated all year, May is a particular month to celebrate the " Queen of Heaven." This is because she was a perfect follower of Christ and is considered the crown of creation. She is also the Mother of the Son of God, Jesus. And, of course, she is the most important woman of our faith and spiritual mother.
Blessings!
