A few words from Mr. Jelks...
Dear LIS Families,
Wow—what a fantastic week we’ve had! From flipping pancakes at our Pancake Breakfast to witnessing the creativity and business skills of our young entrepreneurs at the Entrepreneur Fair, it’s been a whirlwind of excitement, learning, and, of course, delicious food!
The Pancake Breakfast was a huge hit, with students ands staff. A special shout-out to Ms. Blake and the Culture Club students who helped mix, flip, and serve—it was a true team effort! 🥞💛
At the Entrepreneur Fair, our students truly shined! From handmade crafts to innovative products and creative services, it was inspiring to see their passion and hard work come to life. Who knows? We might have the next big business mogul in our midst! 🚀💡 Please see the pictures below.
Now, as we head into Spring Break, we hope you all take this time to relax, recharge, and enjoy some family fun. Whether you're traveling, enjoying the sunshine, or just catching up on some well-deserved rest, we can’t wait to hear all about your adventures when we return!
Wishing you all a joyful and refreshing break! 🌷🌞
We are Kind....
We are Compassionate...
We are LIS...

Golden Thumb Award
Division 3 received the Golden Thumb Award this week!
Tiger Pride Award Winners
Our Tiger Pride Awards are all about celebrating students who consistently demonstrate our school’s core values of kindness, compassion, and empathy. Congratulations to this week's winners, who have shown outstanding commitment to creating a positive, inclusive, and supportive school environment.Grade 7 Entrepreneur Fair – A Huge Success!
Smiles lit up the gym as our Grade 7 students showcased their creativity, hard work, and entrepreneurial spirit at this year’s Entrepreneur Fair! Each student did an outstanding job marketing and selling their products, demonstrating their learning in a real-world setting.
A special thank you to Ms. Lydersen, Ms. Leveque, Mr. Wells, and Mr. Vincent for guiding and supporting students through their Careers classroom sessions, which culminated in this exciting and successful event. Your dedication helped make this experience both educational and inspiring for our young entrepreneurs.
Congratulations to all the students for their effort and enthusiasm—we are so proud of you!
This week’s DRAMAFEST update!
(March 14th – Happy Spring Break!)
DON’T FORGET THAT OUR FESTIVAL RUNS FROM MAY 12th TO MAY 16th!
Division 1-13 Radio Plays
Auditions are now finished and every student knows their role in each play. Full scripts have been sent home this week with students in all classes who have speaking roles so that they can start practising. No memorization is required for radio plays.
Please keep these scripts at home in a safe place so they won’t be misplaced or lost. There is no need for scripts to come back to school since we have copies in the fine arts room that we will be using during in-school rehearsals. Digital copies are not available.
Tales from the Twilight Zone (extra-curricular stage production)
Our after-school drama club continued their rehearsals this week. With spring break upon us, your child should use the break from classes to memorize their lines. When they return to school on March 31st, they will only have 10 days until they are ‘off-book’ and will not be using scripts in rehearsals any longer.
By the end of spring break, drama club students should have at least 75% of their lines and cue lines memorized.
Finally, to help families plan out their schedules in the months ahead, I’m happy to announce the festival schedule! Dress rehearsals run from Wednesday, May 7th to Friday, May 9th. Performances for family and friends are from Monday, May 12th to Friday, May 16th. All radio theatre (Div 1-13) performances will be during school hours. The ‘Tales from the Twilight Zone’ stage show will wrap up the festival on the evening of Friday, May 16th.
Div 1-3 – Fractured Fairy Tales radio theatre è Mon, May 12 during school hours
Div 4 – Twilight Zone radio theatre è Mon, May 12 during school hours
Div 5-7 – Twilight Zone radio theatre è Tues, May 13 during school hours
Div 8-10 – Lights Out radio theatre è Wed, May 14 during school hours
Div 11-13 – Lights Out radio theatre è Thurs, May 15 during school hours
‘Tales from the Twilight Zone’ stage production è Fri, May 16, evening show
Exact times of day are not set, however, performances can start as early as 8:40 and end as late as 2:15. Exact times will be announced in mid-April.

We ask parents/guardians to call the school before 9:00 am at (250) 245-3351 or email Info.LI@sd68.bc.ca to notify the school of your child’s absence. Please follow up with a note to your child’s teacher when your child returns to school so the teacher can address any missed work, homework issues, etc. Also a reminder that if students need to leave early, they should be signed out in the main office.
School Closure
The following is a reminder about the NLPS school closure procedure for students.
If schools are closed due to snow, or any other weather-related problems, announcements will be made on local radio stations (WOLF 106.9 FM, WAVE 102.3 FM, and 91.7 COAST FM) by 7 a.m., or earlier, on the day of the closure. Please do not call the radio station – tune in and listen for the announcements, which will be made on a regular basis.
In addition, the district will post the information on the district’s website, Twitter, Facebook, and mobile app. Families may also receive a message through the School Messenger notification system via phone, email, or text. Please keep in mind, however, that there may be situations where this is not always possible, for example, power outages or technical problems. The most reliable method is to listen to the local radio stations.
