Wickliffe Family Update
November 3, 2024 Notes and News
Dear Families,
We continue to have wonderful weeks at Wickliffe and are always grateful for your support and partnership. Our PTO hopes to see many of you tomorrow at the General PTO meeting in the town square at 7:30 pm! Your involvement means a lot, and it’s a fantastic opportunity to stay connected with our school community.
A special shoutout to Mrs. Szabrak's students, who are fundraising for Honor Flight Columbus by participating in the Halloween Candy Buyback. For every pound of candy collected, $1 will go toward their goal of raising $500 to send a veteran to Washington, D.C., to visit the war memorials at no cost. Please feel free to send in candy this week to support this meaningful cause.
Lastly, a quick reminder that there will be no school on Tuesday due to Election Day.
Thank you for all you do, and let’s make it a great week!
Fondly,
Angela Evans

Wickliffe Updates
Student Advisory Update
Wickliffe Student Advisory is about ready to get started! We are still waiting to receive student applications from all Wickliffe classrooms before selecting which students will be asked to join this year. When we have received all applications, we will reach out to classroom teachers for two student recommendations to represent each class. We are looking forward to hosting our first Student Advisory meeting before school on Wednesday, November 6th at 7:30am in the town square. Student Advisory will then be held on the first and third Wednesdays of every month at the same time. We plan to notify students and their adults if they have been chosen on November 1st. We can't wait to review all of the amazing applications and get started with Student Advisory projects this school year!
Scholastic Book Fair--Volunteers Needed
November 11th - 15th: Scholastic Book Fair - During School Hours (in person) and accessible online!
Students will visit the book fair with their class November 11-13th during their assigned classroom time. The fair will be open to families after our Veteran’s Town Meeting on November 11th from 9-10am. Additional in-person shopping hours will be held on Tuesday, November 12 and Wednesday, November 13 from 3-6pm. We still need volunteers! - sign up here: Book Fair Volunteer Sign-Up
Thanksgiving Food Distribution
Sign-Up by November 8th!
Upper Arlington Schools is partnering with the Tri-Village Packers to support their Thanksgiving 2024 Food Distribution Program. Please consider supporting families experiencing food insecurities in our community - food will be provided during the days students will be off of school for Thanksgiving break November 27th through December 1st.
Veterans Day Celebration
We want to honor veterans on Veterans Day (Monday, November 11). Is there a veteran in your family or do you know of someone who has served or is serving in the military? Please complete this survey with your veteran's information so we can honor them at our town meeting.
Veterans, their student and their families are invited to breakfast and coffee provided by our PTO between 7:30 and 8:30am. Students head to their classrooms at 8:10 then we ask our veterans to join in our school town meeting at 8:30 in seats of honor.
If you have more than one veteran, please fill out the survey for each veteran and note if they will be able to attend.
Missed Call From School?
When you receive a missed call from the school, please wait briefly to check for a voicemail before calling back. Our staff will leave a message with details if follow-up is needed.
We also encourage you to talk with your student (in an age appropriate way) about how voicemails work and why leaving one is important. This can be especially helpful when they’re calling you from school.
Thank you for helping us streamline communication!
November Lunch Menu
PACK TIME
This past week, we began implementing PACK TIME—a designated time (scheduled at least 1-2 times a week) when our classroom teachers and support staff focus directly on building students’ skills and supporting their individual growth. PACK TIME reflects our commitment to several of our 10 Foundational Principles, especially those that celebrate the variation in child development and collaborating together to meet each child’s needs.
During PACK TIME, no new instruction will be introduced. Instead, each child will have a PACK leader to provide focused time for reinforcing and practicing emerging skills. Students may receive the following kinds of targeted support, based on their needs:
- Students with RIMPs may be supported by their classroom teachers or Literacy Specialists
- Students with IEPs may be supported by their Intervention Specialists.
- Some students may focus on skill-building in reading or math.
- Certain students may engage in activities to strengthen social skills, connections, and self-regulation.
- Some students may also have the opportunity to work on tasks or assignments they’re working to complete.
Our entire team is united in providing differentiated, supplemental, and tiered support tailored to foster growth and confidence in each learner. Through PACK TIME, we’re creating a nurturing environment that values each child’s unique journey of learning and development. Thank you for your partnership as we continue to support every learner’s success! If you have any questions, please feel free to let me know.
School Counselors' Corner
Hello Wickliffe Families!
This November all grade level’s counseling lessons are going to focus on gratitude and thankfulness. We will discuss the power of gratitude and how, according to positive psychology research, gratitude is strongly associated with greater happiness, improved health, and stronger relationships (Harvard Health Publishing). Students will make gratitude rainbows to show their classmates what is important to them and what they are grateful for. Finally, we will discuss how knowing what other people are grateful for can help us connect and build a stronger community. I hope your students share their rainbows with you at home and let you know how grateful they are for you! I am so grateful to be a part of this community and to work with such an awesome group of students and families each day!
For more ideas on how to practice gratitude at home see this 21 days of gratitude challenge!
Please reach out if you need anything!

District Updates
Strategic plan update town hall meeting
Learn more about the strategic planning process by joining district leadership for a town hall meeting on Tuesday, November 19 from 6 until 7:30 p.m. at Upper Arlington High School. Attendees will hear a review of the research and work done to date and then break into smaller groups to learn about the steps planned to implement each strategy during the next five years.
Your voice matters! Phase two of facilities master planning
It’s time to join your friends and neighbors and get involved in phase two of facilities master planning! Upper Arlington Schools officially kicked off this community-driven process, focused on the aging middle schools and Burbank Early Childhood School, with the first round of community engagement sessions this week. All Upper Arlington stakeholders will be essential to this process, exploring both the physical and educational needs of each building and helping to identify possible solutions.
Join a building team! Serve as an expert and committed stakeholder for your school(s) of choice by signing up to volunteer for one or more building teams — Hastings, Jones or Burbank. Each team will have three meetings between December 2024 and April 2025. To sign up and learn more, visit the Building Teams page on our website.
Progress Reports
For families with students who have an Individualized Education Plan (IEP), progress reports are available to view in PowerSchool.
Please follow the outlined steps to access your student’s progress report:
Once you are logged into PowerSchool, please click on the green box labeled “PR”
The icon should be at the top of the screen, but if you do not see it, please check on the left-hand side under graduation requirements.
If the green PR box is still not available, please reach out to your student's case manager.
IMPORTANT: If the progress report refers to an attachment, you must change the dropdown in the top right-hand corner next to your student's name from the progress report form to the attachment form.
Thanksgiving break food support
Once again, the district is partnering with Tri-Village Packers (TVP) to provide grocery support during the upcoming Thanksgiving holiday weekend. This food distribution can offset some of the increased food expenses associated with an extended break from school. Groceries are distributed at no cost to families who sign up for the program. Volunteers work to honor dietary needs/restrictions, and delivery is available for those who experience transportation barriers.
If you would benefit from this assistance, please sign up by completing this Google Form by November 8.
