The River Hawk
Rio Norte News - December 6, 2024
A Note From the Principal
Good Morning River Hawk Families,
We hope you and your family had a wonderful Thanksgiving break and holiday. I also hope the video I shared in the last issue inspired you or your student to take a moment to give one or all of their teachers a little shout out of encouragement or thanks over the next two weeks.
Every morning we scan students onto campus for the safety and security of all. Students need their ID card in order to do this. Because we know 11-14 year olds forget sometimes, we have a "forgot ID" form they fill out at the front gate. Typically it was a handful of students and easy to manage, but as the number has greatly increased over the semester we are now finding many issues, including students we saw in line that didn't fill out the form. Beginning Monday, students will be brought into the MPR where an adult can watch each individual fill out the form. They will then be educated on the importance of having their ID daily and sent to class at the bell. Students late to school without ID will still fill out the form, but receive the educational piece at brunch. Students should be encouraged to find their ID card or purchase one at the library for $5. Families with a hardship should reach out to your child’s counselor.
We have a lot of great things going on over the next two weeks so be sure to read on. We look forward to seeing many of our families this Thursday or Friday evening for the elective department's Home for the Holidays event. See all the details below!

RioTV Winter Coat Drive
As the weather turns colder, RioTV is collecting winter coats to donate to Bridge to Home here in Santa Clarita. If you have gently used winter coats (for children or adults) that you wish to donate, please send them to school with your child. They can drop them off before school from this Monday, December 9, through Friday, December 12, in Mr. Ippolito's classroom, Room B-5--right across from the Library entrance. We have already collected 42 winter coats just from our RioTV students, so we are excited to see how many more we can gather to help our community. Thank you so much!
Lost and Found
Every day this month we put out the lost and found for students to get their belongings before the end of the semester. Any unclaimed items will be donated December 20th. Please have students look, esp. at the windows (pictured above) for lost water bottles. Many of these are expensive refillable bottles. Parents please call the office to arrange a time if you'd like to look prior to December 20th, so someone can help you.
Turkey Bowl Photos
While the video of the game takes some time to edit, it will be coming in a future newsletter. Our RioTV students are working hard to provide that for families. In the meantime please enjoy this Turkey Bowl 2024 Picture Album of pictures from the Rally and Game that Mrs. Bennett and the Rio PE teachers took.
