Culture Cards: Celebrating Diversity and Heritage
Culture Cards continue to expand throughout our school hallways this year! Our Culture Cards initiative brings cultural celebrations to life in our schools through vibrant posters, formatted as a large trading card, that highlight key dates, influential people, and important events. These posters, displayed throughout our schools, honor and celebrate the rich diversity within our community, starting with observances like Hispanic Heritage Month. Together, we can foster appreciation and understanding of the many cultures that shape our world.
Check out this week's Culture Card!
Hispanic Heritage Week expanded to a month in 1988. Illinois Senator Paul Simon introduced Bill S. 2200 to the Senate, and amended a bill that first created Hispanic Heritage Week.

-
Noggin Builders continued to travel throughout the district, this time bringing STEM activities to Beulah Park students. The once a month program demonstrates science and engineering concepts. The activities aim to help students develop creative problem-solving and critical-thinking skills.
ZESD 6 staff gathered at ZCMS and SPMS based on district position to spend Wednesday learning from each other and experts in various areas of education. The day brought the open sharing of ideas, teaching strategies, and more. It was designed to bring new strategies and learning opportunities into the classroom.
- In Mrs. Wiltse’s fourth grade, West Wildcats learn vocabulary words by associating them with an action. After reinforcing their new words throughout the week, the students then complete an independent sorting assignment.
- Thank you to all the Elmwood families who attended the school’s parent appreciation night. The event welcomed parents to a sit-down dinner served by staff, during which lively conversation filled the evening. After dinner, school staff hosted an open forum about their new house system based on the teachings of Ron Clark Academy and other school news.
- ZCMS hosted Tuesday's annual district instrument fitting and PowerSchool sign-up night. Over at instrument fitting, seventh and eighth-grade music students and teachers helped over 70 West and Elmwood students pick instruments to learn. Also, during the event, families had the opportunity, with the help of district staff, to set up their parent access to PowerSchool. Lastly, families had the opportunity to get library cards for the Zion Public Library.
