Less Than 20 Percent of Current Students Registered
Here are two reasons why that May 17th deadline is so important:
- The earlier we know which students are returning, the earlier we can ensure we have enough quality teachers to teach them. If we get a large influx of late registrations this summer, we will have very limited options for hiring staff. The ideal time to hire staff is right now.
- We try to assign students to classes so that those rooms have a good mix of personalities, learning styles and abilities. This takes time and a considerable amount of thought! When we must assign last-minute registrations to teachers late in the summer, it throws off that carefully planned classroom balance. That is not helpful to anyone--not to your child, not to their teachers and not to all of the other students.
Please register by May 17th even if you can't pay student fees right away or are uncertain where you will be living in the fall. You'll be doing your part to ensure adequate staffing and appropriate class sizes at your child's school. THANK YOU!
Bernie's Book Bank Delivers the Fun!
District 153 always looks forward to seeing the bright green trucks of Bernie’s Book Bank roll up to deliver free books for our PreK through 6th-grade students to take home and keep. April 24th was just that day! Our students had fun discovering what books were in their bags and then trading some with classmates. Thanks again, Bernie’s Book Bank!
Composting Project Underway at Churchill School
April 18th was the first "Compost Day" at Churchill School! Over the next few weeks, our Bulldogs will be learning what can be composted from their lunch trays and sack lunches. This mini-composting experiment is a project of the school’s Early Act Club and sponsored by Glad Earth Compost, Gaia’s Market & Refillery, Homewood Rotary and Homewood PTA. Many thanks to the parent power of the PTA for lending several helping hands in the lunchroom.
153 Celebrates the Fine Arts
We had a great turnout for the District 153 Fine Arts Show on April 11th. Our district is blessed with so many wonderful student artists!
Roll On, Wildcats!
Willow School’s “littles” hit the Tinley Park Roller Rink on April 24th. For many, it was the first time on skates. No better way to learn than with your loved ones, classmates, and teachers.
Welcome to the Family!
Superintendent Scott McAlister and School Board President Shelly Marks delivered treats to the seven educators awarded tenure at April Board of Education meeting. We're so happy you're here!
