ST. MARY PHOENIX NEWS

This week we celebrated Mardi Gras/Tacky Tuesday with crazy outfits and Original Paczki's freshly made from a Polish Bakery in Parma. Thank you Fr. Rich for standing in line for 2 hours for those delicious delicacies. This year Fr. Steve lead us in a special "Burning of the Palms" Prayer Service on Monday. The majority of us have never witnessed what actually happens to the old palms and where do the ashes used on "Ash Wednesday" come from. For me, truly it made for a different experience during mass when it was time to distribute ashes after participating in the actual making of the ashes.

Just a reminder, there is no school for students on Friday, March 6th. Our teachers will be in Cleveland for Professional Development.

On Monday, March 9th at 7PM, Third grade parents are asked to attend an informational meeting as students transition to Fourth Grade. We will meet in Mrs. Veil's Room on that evening.

If you have not returned your Tuition Worksheet, we would appreciate your assistance in returning them to the office. We will be reaching out to you in the next week. The Tuition Worksheet helps us plan for next year as far as materials and supplies needed. Books and supplies are ordered in March for the following year due to the way money is funded to schools by the state. Some of you may not know but St. Mary School receives state funds per student to purchase books and supplies as well as technology resources. The remainder of the cost to educate each child comes from student tuition and also the parish. We are thankful for the continued support and commitment of the parish to our school and the mission to make Catholic education affordable to all that want their children to attend here.

We were able to add another $17,000 for the Activity Center Project. A Very Large Thank You to everyone who worked hard before, during and after the event, our sponsors, donors and also everyone who purchased auction items. We are working toward reaching our goal and you will start seeing changes to the Activity Center this spring. If you would still like to donate to this much needed face lift, please send donations to the church or school office, attention Laura Marvin. The last time the Activity Center was improved was in 1968, the year it was built. Let's make this happen. Be a part of the change. #Proud to be a Phoenix!

Wash Your Hands with soap and water! Keep your children home when they are sick. Please take them to the doctor if they have flu symptoms. We have one case of confirmed Influenza B and you are required to keep your children home for 5 days. Our maintenance team and staff are disinfecting the building daily. Help us keep everyone healthy!

The grand total from the St. Jude Math-a-thon, Sponsored by the Social Justice Club, from St. Mary's staff, students and families was $3553.32. The First and Fourth Grade classes both had 100% participation on making donations. Each class was rewarded with Monster Cookies from Mrs. Strozyk.
