Levelland ISD's
November 6th, 2023
Veterans Day is a time to remember the service of our veterans. We get to express our gratitude and appreciation for the liberties afforded to us in our country. These individuals gave all that they could to protect our great nation’s freedoms and their sacrifices will never be forgotten. In the words of John F. Kennedy, “As we express our gratitude, we must never forget that the highest appreciation is not to utter words, but to live by them.”
Please join us on Friday, November 10, 2023, as we honor our local veterans. The Levelland ISD Veterans Day Program will be held in the Levelland Middle School Auditorium on Friday, November 10th, beginning at 11:00 a.m. Numerous students have worked hard to prepare this program and take great pride in the opportunity to thank each of our veterans. We hope that you can join us and your attendance is greatly appreciated.
Go Lobos.

Global Festival with The Wallace & SPC Students.....
Our Capitol & South second-graders had the best field trip on Friday! The Wallace partnered with the SPC International Students to engage kids in a Global Festival. It was very well done, and students learned about five continents representing 14 different countries. Students flew from country to country with their luggage and passports in hand. At each destination, they got their passports stamped, learned where the country was on our globe, something about the country, and were engaged in an activity that they left with. They learned how to write their name in Korean. They compared the UK lingo to ours. They made bracelets that represent status in Nigeria. In Japan, they made origami art. In France, they made a cockade. They made a mask for the Brazilian carnival and more! Thank you to The Wallace and the SPC International students for helping us learn so many new things in one day!

After reading six books, they were awarded a free Braum's Ice Cream! Way to go kids! The Braum's Book Buddy program lasts throughout the year, so it's not too late to get started! Keep reading with your families!
Kiss A Pig!
Who can resist a face like this? LMS students raised money to make an administrator KISS A PIG! They raised $700 that will go right back to them! The lucky Pig Kisser was LMS Assistant Principal Laurie Jones! It was fun for everyone but her! Thank you to Methvin Pigs for loaning this cute duroc.

This Lesson was Garbage!
Capitol 4th-Graders enjoyed a trashy lesson with Keep Levelland Beautiful last week! Students learned how much trash is gathered in Levelland before making a trash pizza. The slice sizes represented the amount of trash gathered in the trash dump. This lesson was garbage and hopefully made these students think about how to recycle their trash! https://files.gabbart.com/455/garbagepizzavideo.mp4
Bebop With Aesop Program!
Capitol Third-Graders have been learning about fables. What better way to show what you've learned, than through a musical performance? Third-graders performed Bebop with Aesop, a musical play by Michael & Jill Gallina, under the direction of Capitol Music Director Susan Draper. Ms. Draper #expectsexcellence & students learned to always stop and think before you act, to never put off til tomorrow what you can do today, to not count your chickens before they are hatched, that slow and steady wins the race, and that no one believes a liar even when they are telling the truth! These are all great life lessons and both performances were outstanding! Great job kids!
Adopt-A-Cow!
LMS students in Mrs. Reba Grigg's classroom are participating in the Adopt A Cow Program and have adopted an actual live calf growing up on a dairy farm. Her name is Courtny from Rottinghaus Dairy Farm, located in Seneca, KS. Their calf will not be living at LMS but they will receive monthly updates about her that include information & data, pictures & videos. These updates will include lessons and activities related to her growth, how she is cared for on the farm, and how milk is produced on the farm. Mrs. Grigg's students are excited to follow her journey on the farm while learning more about dairy farming and where milk comes from. Thank you, Mrs. Griggs, for connecting your classroom to another state!
Yearbook Design
LHS students in Ms. Buckner's Yearbook class took it back to the old days and were caught engaging in an assignment called "Delicious Design." Her students were learning yearbook/magazine page design rules. They used graham crackers as the dominant photo, club crackers for other photos, twizzlers for the headlines, fruit roll ups for the story, and skittles for captions. It was a yummy way to learn rules the day after Halloween. Now these students will use these learned skills with technology and the design program. Don't forget to purchase your yearbook!
Wiiest Teaches Career Prep Students
KLVT Radio celebrity Michael Wiiest was caught speaking with Mr. Scott Lawson's LHS Career Prep Class about how to best prepare for an interview on a broadcast, as well as what a career in broadcast looks like.
