- 2024-25 Registration Registration information will be available online starting Thursday, February 7 and a parent meeting will be held that evening in the LSHS Auditorium. If you can not attend, the presentation from the meeting will be posted on the school website. In addition, students in grades 9-11 will be meeting with their Deans during the week of February 12 to go through the registration process. Here is the agenda for Thursday, Feb. 7 parent meeting:
- 6:30pm - Incoming 9th graders (current 8th graders), new to South students, or those needing a refresher
- 7:15pm - Informational PSEO Meeting
- 7:00-8:00pm - Elective Fair - Teachers will be available in the Commons to discuss class choices, new courses, course paths and answer any questions you have about courses that would best fit your child's interests.
- Virtual Learning Day - Tuesday, March 12 Tuesday, March 12 is a virtual learning day for students in grades 9, 10 & 12 & 11th graders who are not taking the ACT. Students not taking the ACT will have asynchronous work assigned in their class periods via Schoology.
- JUNIORS! Are You Prepared for the ACT Test? Students - increase your test-taking confidence and ACT score by prepping for the ACT exam! Here are a couple of options:
- Login to MCIS and utilize the FREE ACT practice tests.
- Register for in-person or virtual ACT Preparatory Courses through Advantage Educational Programs. More information.

Congratulations LSHS Junior Varsity Alpine Ski racers! The teams had their 2nd Junior Varsity Race of the season for the South Suburban Conference on Friday, Jan 19th at Buck Hill. The Girls Team finished 4th overall with Team Captain Abby Carey (11th grade) finishing 2nd overall (PB), and Ellie Oujiri (7th grade) finished 9th overall (PB). MollyAnn Yoho (10th grade), Darby Schreiner (9th grade), Alexa Dobesh (9th grade), and Sarah Yoho (7th grade) also had personal best finishes of the season! The Boys Team clinched 2nd place with Skogen Scharrer (9th grade) finishing in 1st place (PB) followed directly by Owen Healy (9th grade) who finished 2nd overall (PB), Lucas Loger (9th grade) finished 7th overall (PB), Collin Welcome (7th grade) finished 14th overall (PB) and Chase Pangburn (11th grade) finished 27th overall (PB). Way to go Cougars! The next Junior Varsity race is JV Championships on Thursday, Feb 8th at Buck Hill.
Congratulations LSHS Alpine Ski racers! The teams had their 5th Varsity Race of the season for the South Suburban Conference on Tuesday, Jan 23rd at Buck Hill. The Girls Team finished 2nd behind Prior Lake/Farmington with Brenna Peltz (9th grade) finishing 3rd overall (PB), Team Captain Olivia Murphy (11th grade) finishing 4th overall, Team Captain Silje Grasdal (11th grade) finished 11th overall, Emi McCullough (9th grade) finished 16th overall and Team Captain Abigail Carey finished 19th overall out of 58 racers. The Boys Team also finished in 2nd place behind Eastview with Jack Olson (10th grade) finishing in 2nd place overall, Cole Peltz (8th grade) finished 4th overall, Owen Healy (9th grade) finished 15th overall, Skogen Scharrer (9th grade) finished 17th overall, and Lucas Loger (9th grade) finished 24th overall out of 81 racers. The next Varsity race of the season is Tuesday, Jan 30th at 4pm at Buck Hill, and Sections will take place on Tuesday, Feb 6th.
Two winter groups had their last home events of the season - Wrestling and Swimming/Diving. Both were fun and mindful nights for our seniors and their families. Both groups will take to the road for the remainder of the season.
Mock Trial defeated Minnetonka in the second round of regions. They are now 2-0 looking forward to their next competition.
Varsity and Junior Varsity Gymnastics won the "Below Zero" Invitational last weekend. They are currently ranked 2nd in state!
The Blazing Cats remain undefeated with another victory last week over Shakopee.
The Winter Activities Season is starting to head towards Region competitions. There are only a few weeks left to get out and support! Take advantage.

- 👀 ENCORE is preparing for their weekend competition - Great Lakes Quarterfinal of the International Championship of High School A Cappella at G.E.T. High School in Galesville, WI!. They will be presenting their 10 minute set on Friday, February 2nd at 7:30 am in the LSHS Auditorium. All are welcome!
👏 Congrats to our One Act Play ensemble, crew and advisors. They were one of two schools selected to advance to the Region 1AA competition. Their performance of "The Great Gatsby" was stellar! Good luck this week at Kasson-Mantorville.

Scholarship Opportunity
Frandsen Bank & Trust is pleased to announce the fourth year of our scholarship program, the Orlo A. Balcer Memorial Scholarship. High school seniors across our footprint can earn one of the 25 - $1,000 scholarships.
We feel strongly that these scholarships not only continue the legacy of Orlo Balcer (a Fransen Bank & Trust teammate whom we lost and who possessed an inquisitive, learning mindset), but also foster continued learning and growing opportunities for those students who will continue their education and work to contribute to their local communities (core mission and value of Frandsen Bank & Trust).
Who is eligible?
Applications are open to high school seniors that satisfy the following fields:
- High school senior in Minnesota, North Dakota, or Wisconsin.
- On track to graduate in the spring of 24’.
- Must attend a post-secondary institution in the fall of 24’ – proof of admittance.
- The student or parent/guardian is a customer of Frandsen Bank &Trust.
How to apply:
Applicants will apply by writing a short essay by answering the following question: In 200 words or fewer, how do you contribute to your local community?
The application will be available through February 29th, 2024, and winners will be announced in early April. If the student fails to attend school in the fall of 24’ or doesn’t provide the required information by the deadline noted below, the scholarship will be forfeited.
- Scholarship payment will be made directly to the winner’s school.
- Payment will be made after the winner has submitted all required information to Frandsen Bank & Trust no later than August 1, 2024. Information includes college acceptance letter, student ID#, and remittance address.

Lakeville South students and families are welcome to attend the Environmental College and Career Fair coming up on Tuesday, Feb 13 from 6 to 8 PM at SES. It is free, open to the public, and there is no pre-registration. 27 colleges have confirmed participation.
