Meet Mohammed Haneef - Family Learning Center Student turned Peer Tutor
Mohammed came to the FLC for help with homework. And in 2018, Mohammed, well-versed with the FLC and achieving academic success, became a peer tutor who now helps other students.
Last year, Mohammed created our first-ever Family Learning Center's 3-fold brochure. His commitment to the FLC and his patience when working with students has made him an integral part of our Family Learning Center community.

That Iced Vanilla Latte might taste good, but for teens, it can lead to problems!
This must be news to all teens out there because adolescents are among the fastest-growing consumers of caffeine. Some coffee drinks taste like dessert and they are as accessible as a bottle of water and teens can feel grown-up toting around a Starbucks cup. Did you know that all this caffeine may be amplifying your anxiety, compromising tonight’s sleep, tanking tomorrow’s school performance, inhibiting nutrient absorption, dehydrating your cells, and when mixed with alcohol, causing real trouble?
Caffeine changes brain function and affects mood, cognition and behavior. Although it is socially acceptable, it still causes withdrawal symptoms such as headaches, fatigue and a lack of attention when it is removed from your diet.
There are alternative ways to boost your energy that may not taste as sweet as that Frappuccino but are measurably healthier. Eat a diet of whole foods that is high in complex carbohydrates, healthy fats and B vitamins. Get regular exercise, drink lots of water and get at least nine hours of sleep every night. If you do all these things, you might actually master adulting better than many adults!

Staff Profile - Patti Park - Parent & Community Liasion
I am a Native San Diegan. I grew up in Chula Vista and I am a graduate of both Southwestern Junior College and San Diego State University. I am very familiar with the Poway Unified School District as our daughter attended Shoal Creek Elementary School, Meadowbrook Middle School and she graduated from MCHS in 2013. Running my own baby clothes business, Tiny Bundles, over the past 21 years gave me the flexibility to volunteer, chaperone, be an assistant Girl Scout Troop Leader, a drama booster and a choir booster throughout our daughter's educational years. Alexis is a recent graduate of San Diego State University with a Bachelor's Degree in Theater Performance. We are an "Aztec for Life" Family. MCHS, with our excellent reputation in the arts, served us well.
I enjoy my work at the Family Learning Center, as it is fulfilling in a giving-back sort of way. I particularly enjoy cheering on our students and watching them excel academically. In my spare time, I enjoy traveling and the arts. Over the last couple of years, my family has had the wonderful opportunity to travel to various parts of Europe. I love the arts as Alexis has been performing since the young age of 5. I enjoy attending plays, musicals, staged readings, concerts and all sorts of entertainment, especially those in which Alexis is involved!
Our doors at the FLC are always open to you. Please stop by for a visit!
