Nest Period
Nest is our proactive program that is designed to support student achievement, student growth and student well being. It is a time for everyone to press pause and take a few minutes away from academics to build relationships, check-in, and gain access to school information.
Nest meets the requirements set by the Ohio Department of Education to provide Tier 1 Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports (PBIS), which serves as the foundation for behavior and academic excellence. This period also supports our initiative to create a space where each student feels an enhanced sense of belonging.
The activities for Nest can be found on our Nest calendar weekly. Below you will see some of the activities that occur in Nest:
Daily announcements
Safety drills (fire, tornado, lock down, etc.)
Share information with students
Celebrate students/school achievements
SchooLinks: College & career planning platform
Attendance
Getting into the habit of daily attendance helps to:
- reduce stress
- make it easier to connect with friends and teachers
- support learning
Maintaining regular attendance not only enhances a student's academic performance but also fosters a sense of responsibility and discipline that are crucial for future success. By attending school, students are better positioned to maximize their educational opportunities and achieve their full potential. Please see these attendance reminders to support a successful school year.
TO PARENTS:
Early Dismissal Procedure
If a student must leave class during the school day, a request for early dismissal is to be submitted by the parent in advance to the Attendance Secretary through the electronic High School Early Dismissal Form. Please note that this request is for early dismissals and should not be used for extended pre-planned absences.
For extended pre-planned absences, please use the New Albany Plain Local Schools Planned Absence Form. The links for these forms and additional attendance information are available on the attendance page of our website.
For an absence to be marked as excused, the absence reason must meet one of the criteria established by the Board of Education (Board Policy 5200).
TO STUDENTS:
Sign-In Procedure
Students who arrive late to school or are returning from an early dismissal should sign in to the Welcome Center or in E Office.
Opt-Out Sign in Procedure
Students who have first period Opt-Out are required to sign in to the Welcome Center or E Office when they arrive on campus to be considered present for the school day. Students who have seventh period Opt-Out do not need to sign out after sixth period.
Tardies
Each quarter students will be given four free tardies to school. On the fifth and subsequent tardies, discipline will be handed out, ranging from after-school detention to ALC. Communication about tardies will be delivered to students and parents via email.
Cell Phones
To support learning in the classroom, the expectation at New Albany High School is that students are not using their cell phones during class periods, including study centers. For students who bring cell phones to class, each classroom has a cell phone storage caddy where the phones must be placed when students enter the classroom. Students may use cell phones between class periods and during lunch periods.
We are asking for your help in communicating these expectations with your children about cell phone use at school.
Student ID Cards and E+R=O Lanyards
For safety purposes, staff and students are required to wear their student ID on their E+R=O lanyard on a daily basis. Freshman and new students receive new IDs when they come to the high school. All other students will wear their ID from the previous school year.
Current students in grades 10, 11, & 12 who need a new ID can click the following: Request New Student ID or scan the QR code available in the Welcome Center and in the main HS Office.
Back-to-School Parking Alert
As we prepare for a new school year, New Albany Police would like to remind parents that Market Square parking is intended for customer and employee parking. Proper signage is in place and towing will be enforced. Click here to learn about other parking options for students.

School and College Counseling Updates
Senior College Planning Night - Wednesday, September 11th
Learn about the application process, sending transcripts, asking for recommendations and what to expect this year. The presentation will begin at 6:30 pm in the Mini Theatre. There will be a follow up presentation on financial aid and scholarships later this fall.
Counselors are excited to connect with their seniors as they prepare for life after high school. Whether it be skilled trades, military service, employment or college, we encourage EVERY senior to schedule an appointment with their counselor to discuss their plans. Seniors applying to college should meet with their counselor ASAP, as there are many details and deadlines this fall!
Schedule Change Requests
Counselors have been busy processing hundreds of schedule change requests. We appreciate everyone's patience and understanding as we work hard to get students in classes they need to graduate and to help them prepare for future opportunities.
Tuesday is the last day for students to request a schedule change. While we will process each request, many may not be accommodated due to class sizes, course availability, and/or academic need. Our goal is to have all requests processed by Thursday morning. Students should look in PowerSchool each morning and follow the schedule they see online to avoid being marked absent.
Please refer to the Program of Studies for course descriptions and prerequisite information.
Some classes have Summer Assignments. See high school website for more information.

Setting Up Students for Success: Enhancing Executive Functioning Skills for a Smooth School Year
As we dive into the new school year, helping students enhance their executive functioning skills can make a significant difference in their academic success and overall well-being. Executive functioning encompasses crucial skills such as organization, time management, attention, and self-regulation. To support your child in these areas, consider implementing strategies like using planners to track assignments, breaking tasks into manageable steps, and creating a distraction-free study space. Encouraging routines and reflection can further bolster their ability to stay focused and manage their time effectively. By fostering these skills at home, you can set your child up for a successful and smooth school year. For additional support and resources, check out our dedicated resource page.
