Meet Mrs. Barrett
Hello everyone! For those of you I haven’t met yet; I’m Mrs. Barrett, your new art teacher, and I am so excited to be here this year! It has been an absolute joy getting to know each and every one of your wonderful children, and we’ve already dived into some fantastic creative projects together!
So far, we’ve collaborated on monochromatic self-portraits with each grade using a different color from the rainbow. We celebrated International Dot Day by exploring S.E.L through Neurographic art inspired by the talented Peter Reynolds! As we’ve been learning about monarch migration, we incorporated butterflies into our art with clay creations, experimenting with textures and mastering techniques like coils, spheres, and slabs. The students also showcased their symmetry skills by painting beautiful butterflies!
Inspired by the graceful dancers of Edgar Degas, we’ve created sculptures that capture the essence of ballet. Most recently, our school had an exciting visit from the Awkwaaba drummers from Ghana, where we learned about the vibrant culture of their land on September 20th! We engaged in creating our own paper kente cloths, weaving together beautiful colors, while our first graders crafted their own Anasi the Spider weaver inspired by the famous shapes and colors of the stories.
I can’t wait to continue this amazing journey in the art room with your incredible kids, and I look forward to seeing all of you at the open house! Let’s keep making art and having fun together!

educational disability as defined by the New Hampshire Rules for the Education of Children
with Disabilities.

Akwaaba Ensemble Highlights!
Last Friday, we were treated to an unbelievable event filled with music, dance, culture and new friends, the Akwaaba Ensemble! Our students had a blast and enjoyed learning about West Africa and enjoyed dancing as a school but DEFINITELY enjoyed watching their teachers dance! THANK YOU, PTA and Mrs. Barrett for immersing our students in the art of Ghana, which Theo and the crew truly appreciated!!!!!

COMMUNITY NEWS
Street Sign Auction!: Own a Piece of Rye History
The Rye Historical Society is sponsoring an online auction of 32 original, vintage Rye street
signs! Each of the metal pieces once identified thoroughfares throughout the town. Some
represent a single street while others are double, indicating an intersection. These were all
replaced with newer versions many years ago. All proceeds will support the preservation and
protection of the Society’s extensive collection of books, manuscripts, images and artifacts for the benefit of future generations of Rye residents.
The auction will be open for 21 days, beginning on October 1, 2024. All street signs are being
sold as-is and all sales are final. After the auction closes on October 21, 2024, winning bidders
will be contacted by the Rye Historical Society about the timing for pick up at the Rye Town
Museum. Because of cost and weight, the Historical Society is unable to ship a street sign.
Interested? Go to https://auctria.events/Streetsigns to register and place your bids!
