Principal's Corner
Dear Slate Hill Families,
Our fresh fruit and vegetable snacks for our Slate Hill Stars were a huge success! We have some 4th and 5th grade snack leaders that are helping us get our carts out to the hallways. The snacks will be given during a classwork and snack time that is after breakfast, not during lunch so depending on the grade level may be in the morning or afternoon. We will be providing the fresh fruit/veggies on Tuesdays and Thursdays, however we do plan to provide these snacks 5 days a week once we work out how we will be distributing them on a daily basis. If you have any time during your day to help us distribute these snacks, please fill out this form. Thank you!
This Thursday 9/19 is our Slate Hill McTeacher Night at the Wilson Bridge Road McDonald's from 5-7pm. We will get 20% of the sales during this time while our staff works behind the counter, in the drive thru and in the dining room. See you there!
As always, we want to partner with you in your child's education so please reach out to me if I can help or support you in anyway!

Counselor's Corner
Next week, as a district, we will be celebrating National Start With Hello Week. Start With Hello is one of Sandy Hook Promise’s programs that teaches students to be more socially inclusive and connected to each other. We are hoping this will increase our students’ sense of belonging. Each day, students will engage in discussions and challenges that relate to a daily theme. On Friday, students can wear green to celebrate Start With Hello!
Daily themes:
Make Someone Smile Monday: Sometimes just simply smiling and saying hello to someone can turn their day around by making them feel seen and less lonely.
Two Challenge Tuesday: Challenge 1: Learn a new name of someone you didn’t know at our school. Challenge 2: Sit next to someone that you’ve never sat with at lunch today.
World Ways to Say Hello Wednesday: In Worthington School District, there are students from about 55 different countries that speak about 115 different languages.
Trusted Adult Thursday: It’s important to know who you can talk to if you need help or you are feeling sad or alone.
Feel Good Friday: Give people compliments to help them feel good. We will also wear green to celebrate!
Thank you for supporting and talking with your child(ren) about this important initiative!

Title I Information
Title I, Part A (Title I) of the Elementary and Secondary Education Act, as amended by the Every Student Succeeds Act (ESEA), provides financial assistance to local educational agencies (LEAs) and schools with high numbers or high percentages of children from low-income families to help ensure that all children meet challenging state academic standards. Our school receives Title IA funding.
Parents/families of students in our building have a right to know about teacher qualifications and state-mandated assessments. All teachers providing Title I interventions are properly licensed for their positions and anyone can search licensure information on any educator at https://core.ode.state.oh.us/Core4/ODE.CORE.Lic.Profile.Public.UI/ . In addition to being linked here, these documents are available on the Title IA page of our school website.
School Meals and Free/Reduced Applications
The USDA had school food services return to pre-pandemic operations last year.
Worthington Schools has eligibility-based pricing of meals (Free/Reduced/Paid).
All Worthington School families are required to complete the online Free/Reduced Lunch Eligibility Form. All students use their Lunch ID for meals. The student's number can be found in the Parent Portal. Select the Student ID tab and look for your Lunch PIN.
Families can add money to their lunch account through My Payments Plus. You can also use MPP to track your student's account and see much money remains on it. My Payments Plus is also used to pay other fees, like high school parking permits and AP testing fees.

Circle of Grandparents
Circle of Grandparents (COG) is a character education program that operates in the Worthington
School District, having been established in the year 2000. With the support of Worthington Schools
and the nonprofit Partners for Community and Character, senior volunteers use community-chosen
qualities to teach students the importance of good character.
We’re looking for volunteers! Our goal is to have a grandparent in each Worthington School
elementary classroom. As a “Grandparent”, you can draw from your own life experiences and
individual talents to teach concepts of character to your “adopted” class. No classroom or teaching
experience is required, COG will provide support and materials to you through monthly, optional
meetings.
You do not have to be an actual grandparent to participate, however, if you are a grandparent to a
child in the Worthington Schools, you may request your grandchild’s class. Any “Grandparent” has the option to choose the school and grade level they wish to assist.
This is a wonderful opportunity that benefits all who are involved. Interested in learning more? Please contact Jim McElligott at jamestmcelligott53@gmail.com.
