Intervention / Enrichment Times (I/E) in 2nd - 5th Grade
Elementary Intervention/Enrichment (I/E) Times are designated blocks within the school day that provide targeted academic support or enrichment opportunities for students based on their individual needs. The goal of these dedicated times is to ensure that all students, whether they are struggling or excelling, receive personalized instruction to help them succeed academically.
Each grade level has two I/E times per day for 30 minutes. During these times, students work with a variety of teachers including: Classroom Teachers, Title One Tutors, Gifted Intervention Specialist and Intervention Specialists. During I/E times, no new content is introduced.
How I/E Times Work:
Assessment-Driven Grouping:
- These groups can change throughout the year as students’ needs evolve.
- Students are grouped based on ongoing assessments, classroom performance, and learning needs.
Intervention:
- For Struggling Students: Students who need extra help receive focused instruction in specific areas where they are having difficulties, such as reading, writing, or math.
- Targeted Support: Teachers or specialists work with small groups to address gaps in understanding and reinforce foundational skills.
Enrichment:
- For Advanced Learners: Students who are excelling or mastering grade-level content receive opportunities for enrichment.
- Extended Learning: These students participate in more challenging activities or projects that deepen their understanding and allow for creative or critical thinking.
Purpose of I/E Times:
- Address Learning Gaps: Provide additional instructional time for students who need more practice and support to reach grade-level standards.
- Challenge High Achievers: Offer advanced learners opportunities to extend their knowledge, explore new concepts, and engage in higher-level thinking.
- Promote Personalized Learning: Tailor instruction to meet the needs of each student, ensuring all students can grow academically at their own pace.
Overall, Intervention/Enrichment Times help create an inclusive, responsive learning environment where every student has the opportunity to thrive.
