A PRAYER BEFORE DOING THE SHOPPING ๐
Generous God
My list is full, as usual, with all the things I need,
But Iโm leaving some space today for you to fill
Iโve written down three headings:
Justice, kindness, humility
As I shop today, could you fill those columns as we go?
Maybe I can pay a little extra to make sure something is ethically sourced,
Or pop something into the foodbank basket,
Or put something back which I donโt really need.
Or maybe you want me to bite my tongue
when the person in front of me takes the bargain I had my eye on,
Or to smile at the harassed parent whose toddler careens into me with her trolley
Or to share a word of encouragement with the bored teenager who serves me at the till.
Whatever my basket holds today, help me to focus on your list, not mine.
Amen

Did You Know?
December 14-15 || โNoโ is a complete sentence.
A critical boundary to learn for yourself and for your children is the word โno.โ Saying โnoโ to something you are uncomfortable with, or that you know is wrong, is sometimes the hardest thing to do, but it is so important. โNoโ is a complete sentence and should be honored by anyone listening. This is a great way to teach children how to listen to their friends and respect what they hear. This teaches children personal autonomy, which can extend to a child saying โnoโ to unwanted touches or behavior and potentially protect them from abuse and harm. For more information, read the VIRTUSยฎ article โWhen Boundaries Abound, Our Lives Can Flourishโ at

December 21-22 || Red flags in gift giving
โTis the season for giving and receiving gifts, but some gifts are inappropriate for children to receive from adults. Talk to your children about appropriate gift giving โ who they should give presents to and who they do not need to give to. Discuss when they should accept a present or not. This would be a good time to establish family rules
about gift receiving. For example: friends and family may not accept gifts outside of established holidays, like a birthday or Christmas. For more information, read the VIRTUSยฎ article โAn embarrassment of riches: establishing a framework for gift giving to kidsโ at lacatholics.org/did-you-know/.
Mission Statement
To educate TK-Eighth grade students in a Catholic environment in which the curriculum emphasizes spiritual, ethical, and social values of the Catholic faith to become responsible and moral citizens within the global community.
Philosophy
Supporting the belief that parents are the primary educators of their children, we as educators at St. Dorothy Catholic School, dedicate ourselves to partner with the parents in preparing children to become contributing members of the community. To achieve this, we provide holistic development in psychological, emotional, social and physical health, with an emphasis on academics, faith, and Christian service.
In collaboration with parents, we champion student achievement through the presentation, practice, and study of Catholic doctrine, a strong academic curriculum, multimedia and multi-cultural experiences, physical education, extracurricular programs, and the dedicated commitment of the teachers and staff.
