PCMS Weekly Update
May 17, 2024
Good Afternoon PCMS Families!
While one group of our kiddos is getting ready (really, really ready!!) for high school, we recently brought over our new crew of 5th Grade Pirates! On Wednesday, we hosted our 5th Grade Step UP! Day where they attended a pep assembly, learned a little about Middle School Life, and took a tour of the school. Our Student Council kids and sponsors did a great job in welcoming them to their new Pirate Ship! And, we finally made it to the last week - even with Mother Nature thinking we needed a few extra days to get the job done! Just a few months ago we were showing 6th graders how to open a locker, maneuvering through lunch, and watching the first volleyball and football games. It flies by! Monday through Thursday are business as usual until Friday, when we'll clean out lockers for the last time. Who knows what treasures we might find 🤪!!
Thank you again for your support and partnership this year!! GO PIRATES!!
🚀 Check Out What We Did This Week
During our "Out to C" time on Thursday, our 8th graders heard from Brandi Moritz from NCC about Culinary careers.
7th graders enjoyed taking on the Pringles Challenge! They made a plan on how to best stack an entire tube of Pringles into a ring. This STEM activity takes time and patience. Students learn about support structures and balance. It results in a lot of celebration and pictures as many of the teams were successful!
🎯 Pirates in Action
Archery: Last week our Archery team went to nationals in Kentucky where the team finished 68 nationally in Bullseye and 56th for 3-D and Jake Sloan placed 3rd overall in the middle school division boys! Way to go Archers!!
Band and Choirs: Our Middle School Jazz Band had the honor of performing at the "Evening of Jazz" last Friday night. We are super proud of them! Congratulations to our Choirs and Bands on their final performances of the year this week! We love their spring concerts because you get to see firsthand how much they’ve grown and improved over the course of the year. Both groups performed amazingly well - super proud of them and their teachers!!
This Week's Pirates of Character 🧡 Focus
- 6th Grade learned about Saying I'm Sorry. In this session, we worked on learning to apologize, a simple but important skill that can help us handle some of the conflicts we get into with others.
- 7th Grade worked on Developing Well-Being Habits. This was the 4th of 4 sessions on well-being. In this session, we thought about personal goals we have for our well-being and identified the barriers we may face in trying to achieve them.
- 8th Grade continued to work on their time management skills. We learned that every day is a gift. Learning how to manage your time now, even though you are young, is something that will add to the quality of your life. Remember that you are in charge of your time and that every day you make choices to invest it or waste it. You never get this time back, so choose wisely.
👕 School Reminder
We have been finding all sorts of hooded sweatshirts, water bottles, lunch boxes, and other miscellaneous items being left here and there. We would love to get these items back to their owners as quickly as possible. Please ask your students to check the Lost and Found table to see if anything might belong to them or parents are welcome to come in and check the table at any time! We also have jewelry items and Stanley mugs in the office.
After School gets out for the Summer, we will be donating any items left over to Hillcrest.
🦜 May Pirates of the Month
These students were nominated by their teachers for doing it the Pirate Way by showing great character! These students will be recognized at our Assembly next Friday where they will receive a certificate, a gift bag with a water bottle, candy, and a gift card. Today, they were able to have a pizza lunch with a friend. Congratulations - we’re super proud of them!
