College Visit to CSU San Marcos - Fri, Oct. 25
Our trip to CSU San Marcos was a great opportunity for our students to experience a college campus beyond Mesa. Beyond learning about college, our students truly enjoyed the opportunity to bond and connect in a different way. The students were given campus tours and encouraged to see college as a viable pathway beyond high school.
Federal Impact Aid Form - due Nov. 15
Our Met families can help us secure critical funding by completing the Federal Impact Aid form.
Impact Aid funds are designated to assist school districts that enroll federally connected students. This includes children of active-duty uniformed services personnel, children who live on federal property or in subsidized federal housing, and children whose parents are employed on eligible federal property.
Impact Aid funds become part of the district's general operating budget and support instructional activities for all students.
We are asking all families to complete the brief form before November 15. Please note that all information provided will be treated confidentially.
Here is how to complete the form through the PowerSchool Parent Portal TODAY!
Login at https://powerschool.sandi.net/
Select Forms from the left-hand navigation menu, then select 2024-25 Impact Aid Survey.
Follow the prompts and submit the form. Please be sure a confirmation appears before logging off.
If you do not yet have a Parent Portal account, contact your school. Visit our support website for more information: https://www.sandi.net/itd/powerschoolportal

SPRING 2025 Mesa College Class Registration
Our students have begun the process of registering for Mesa classes for Spring 2025! Students are using the Spring 2025 Mesa class schedule to choose classes. It is now live on the Mesa website. They must submit their course requests to their Advisor for approval and then complete the Supplemental Application (JIRA) to the college by November 8.
Mr. Moravec has been working with all students through Advisory to assist each student with this process. He is also working directly with all eligible 9th grade and new students to complete the Mesa application and meet the November 8 deadline to register for Personal Growth 120. Please reach out to your student’s Advisor or Mr. Moravec (jmoravec@sandi.net) if you have any questions.

Parent Notification of Comprehensive Sexual Health Education for Students in Biology Class
California state law, the California Healthy Youth Act, requires that comprehensive sexual health and HIV prevention education be provided to students at least once in middle school and once in high school, starting in grade 7. In keeping with these requirements and guidelines, the Met will be offering a sexual health education unit to all students who are taking biology class this school year (primarily 9th graders). Please click here for a letter to parents/guardians with relevant information and links.
Please click here for links to pre-recorded curriculum previews. A reminder notification will be sent to all 9th grade parents/guardians at least two weeks prior to the beginning of the sexual health instruction.
Important Facts
Attendance, Absences, Appointments
Good attendance is of the utmost importance for your student's learning. As an independent study school where students only attend their classes three days a week, it is vital that students are on time to EVERY class, EVERY day. Parents/guardians are required to inform our office (619-388-2299 or email Carolyn Dumas at cdumas@sandi.net) if your students will be absent or late. If you wish to request an early dismissal for your student, please notify our office no later than 10am that same day.
Please schedule all medical and dental appointments outside of school hours. We know that appointments can be challenging to get at times, but please do your best to support good attendance for your students so they do not miss any valuable learning at school!
Mental Health Supports
We will be supported again this year by a mental health clinician from Wellness Together. This year, our clinician is on campus on Mondays from 8:30 to 3:00. Students who are in need of mental health services may be referred to the clinician for one-on-one support. Please speak with your student's advisor or our counselor, Mr. Moravec, for more information.
Food on Campus
Free School Meals for All!
As part of the State of California's Universal Meals Program, all students in our school district are eligible to receive free breakfast and lunch at school. Meals will continue to be "grab and go" bags, and this year we have expanded our menu to include hot lunch options for the first time. If you would like your student to receive free meals at the Met, please sign up by emailing our interim administrative assistant, Carolyn Dumas, at cdumas@sandi.net. Students may also sign themselves up with Carolyn in the office.
Meals may be picked up inside K203 (office). Breakfast is served from 8:00 to 8:25, and lunch is served from 12:10 to 12:25. On Tuesdays and Thursdays, lunch is served from 11:30 to 11:45 for any student who wishes to take a lunch at the end of the Gateway class.

Senior Early Dismissal Policy
As part of supporting our 12th graders in having diverse opportunities for success, the Met has an early dismissal policy for qualified seniors. Students and parents/guardians must submit this Senior Early Dismissal application and await approval by the principal before any early dismissal can begin. Please note that the earliest that seniors may be dismissed is 12:10pm, and early dismissal does not apply on MetUp days (one Friday a month) or other special events that require student attendance until the end of the school day. Please refer to this Senior Early Dismissal Policy document for more details.
Letters of Recommendation for Early Action or Early Decision applicants
If you are applying for Early Action or Early Decision, you will need to complete your applications by November 1st or November 15th. If you need a letter of recommendation from Mr. Moravec, your teachers, or any other recommenders, you should give them AT LEAST 2 weeks advance notice, preferably more. If you would like Mr. Moravec to write you a letter, please complete this form and submit it to him when you request the letter.
