Wiggin Street Parent Update

Dear Wiggin Street Families,

This week has been another great week at Wiggin Street! There are so many things happening throughout our days that it's hard for me to see all the great things, but luckily teachers share with me pictures and videos of some events missed. I love the moments though when I'm in a classroom and just happen to see students engaged in their learning and capture it for you to see. Mrs. Bebout's class shared the drills that they do each day during explicit instruction in literacy. You can see one of the drills they shared in this update.

Grades 3-5 teachers are preparing for the Ohio State Tests students will be taking in April. You can see the dates in this update and also a link to learn more about the tests. There are even practice tests that you can view to learn more about the expectations, and practice at home with your student. Sometimes, half the battle is knowing what is expected. Students have been practicing all year through their lessons, and they they've got this!

Congratulations to all of the students in the district that were recognized at the Crunch Out Obesity Awards Ceremony this week at Twin Oak Elementary. Wiggin Street 4th grade students, Maddy Kelling and Brock Sabo (school winner), read their winning essays at the awards ceremony. We are proud of the efforts that they put into writing their essays about what they learned during the lessons in gym class. Information about 5-2-1-0 is shared and reviewed throughout the program.

Many classrooms have been lucky to have Knox County Career Center senior-level students from the Early Childhood Education Program for the past eight weeks. Racheal Snyder spent time with 3rd Grade, and all the students grew close to her and wanted to wish her well as her time at Wiggin Street ended this week.

Wiggin Street Alumni, Grace Neighbarger and Abby Taylor, visited Wiggin Street with their moms to donate tubs of school supplies and games for the students and teachers from New Life Church. They loved stopping by over their Spring Break and giving back to their Elementary Schools. Thank you so much!

Please keep these dates in mind when scheduling appointments for April. Make-up testing takes some of our educators away from intervention instruction, so we like to limit it as much as possible.

3rd-5th Grade Math Ohio State Test: April 30 & May 1

This site for students and families has lots of great information about the state test and 3rd grade Reading Guarantee as well as practice tests.

Continuing Open Enrollment is for students who are currently attending Mount Vernon School District and desire to continue open enrollment with the District for the 2023-2024 school year.

• Complete your application through the Parent Portal on the District web site. Instructions for Continuing Open Enrollment are located on the Parent Resources Page.
• Continuing Open Enrolled opens March 1, students will have until April 10 to complete this process.

If your address has changed since your last application, please update your child's emergency medical form in the Parent Portal on the District web site and you will also need to provide proof of residency. Instructions for Change of Address are also located on the Parent Resource Page.
