Friday, November 4th, 2022
We have an Elearning day on Tuesday 11/8/22. This means children will NOT report to school, but instead will be learning from home. Children will be live on Zoom with their teachers from 9-11:45am and will have work to complete in the afternoon.
We will be celebrating Veteran's Day with a little program on Friday 11/11. If you have someone to celebrate- please get us all the information below by TUESDAY 11/2.
Talking Goals & GRIT
Grit is working hard, persevering and never giving up! We all need grit to get through life. Angela Duckworth and her team from the University of Pennsylvania are working on clever strategies to help students learn to work hard and adapt in the face of temptation, distraction and defeat. When Angela was asked why she studies perseverance, she said, "Why? Because life is hard. Because there are just obstacles every day in everything that we want to do. If it were easy, it would be done already, and I think that goes for any work that's worthwhile." In other words, children need to be taught to appreciate that it is normal to struggle when working hard on a challenge that exceeds their skills. It is normal to feel confused. Frustration is probably a sign that they're on the right track and to gut it out through natural human aversion to mental effort and feeling overwhelmed. Think of the story "Little Engine That Could." When it got hard, he never gave up and continued to tell himself. "I think I can!" Teachers are here to assist your children when they struggle and encourage them to keep working to accomplish their goals. In addition, they teach students the process of working through the tough work and never give up. Down below are the goals we worked towards in our first quarter along with all our new goals for quarter 2!
Think First Stay Safe Lessons
Dear Parents/Guardians,
This past week students participated in Think First and Stay Safe presentations. We are so thankful for our presenters, Ms. Tami and Ms. Rachel, who spent four days teaching our littlest Brickies! Students learned the importance of treating themselves and others with kindness and respect, how to demonstrate positive behavioral expectations, and how to recognize inappropriate and unsafe behaviors. Students also learned how to set personal boundaries and how to identify trusted adults at home and at school. Students completed a workbook with Ms. Tami and Ms. Rachel that they were able to take home! Be on the lookout for the workbook and ask your students what they learned from the Think First and Stay Safe presentations.
SPARE CHANGE DRIVE!!
This week in library we are reading "A Little Spot for Giving" and teaching the kids how special it is to give to others. In this book- we talk about GIVING being one of the most amazing GIFTS! These aren't just ordinary GIFTS these gifts have the power to spread KINDNESS, too! From Kindness to Compassion join a little SPOT as he walks you through all the amazing GIFTS every single one of us can GIVE! To go along with the story, we are kicking off a Spare Change Drive where all the money will be donated to our Building Brickies to donate to a local charity for Giving Tuesday on 11/28. We kick off the collection on 11/1 and it goes all the way through 11/28 so send that spare change in!! The class with the most money collected will earn an ice cream party! Here is also a link to make donations online if you would like to contribute that way.
Here is the link to RSVP for Kindergarten & Coffee this Friday.

Look to your child's teacher for more info on Friendship Day. This is an awesome opportunity for you to be able to volunteer your time to help out with this celebration. Each class will need 6-7 parent volunteers, so if you would like to try to volunteer- make sure you come up to the school and get your ID scanned for your background check no later than November 7th to be approved to help with this fun event.
