Greetings 8th Grade Parents/Guardians,
As we prepare for 8th Grade Promotion Week, we want to remind you of the following:
8th Grade Picnic - Tues 5/21/24 from 8am - 2:29pm
Middle School Quad and West Grass Field
Weβre expecting cooler weather (high of 68 degrees, partly cloudy). Encourage your child to bring layers for the day as they will spend most of the school day outside. Sunscreen is also recommended.
The school dress code still applies (in particular: no exposed midriffs, shoulders, or Crocs).
Students are expected to leave their cell phones powered off in their backpacks for the duration of the school day, including during the picnic.
8th Grade Promotion - Thurs 5/23/24 from 8:30am - 9:30am
East Grass Field
Dropoff your child to school at the regular start time to allow students to settle in with their homeroom teachers before the promotion.
Promotion will begin at approximately 8:30 am and conclude at around 9:30 am. Check-in at Gate 5 will start at 08:00 am, immediately following dropoff.
ONLY 4 guests per student will be allowed to enter the event (the 4 guests include siblings checking out from class).
Administration will assign seating to families that did not make a selection through SignupGenius (All promoting students have been assigned a seating pod).
You will be given your seating assignment upon your check-in on May 23rd. All family members must check in together.
For safety and campus security, you must remain on the grass field at all times. The rest of the campus is closed to the public.
The entrance to the event will be located at Gate 5 at the bottom of the hill near the crosswalk at Casuda Canyon Drive and Barranca (see map below). Only those needing Handicap access will be allowed through the front gate and receive a special pass to exit through the front office at the end of the program.
If you have already notified the front office of any siblings you are checking out for this event, they will be sent to the office after attendance is taken. Students will receive an index card with their family's assigned seating number and will be directed by an ASB student to the grass area to meet with their family.
If you have not notified the school, please use this form to indicate that you are checking siblings out to attend the ceremony.
Our newly elected 2024-25 ASB student body will readily assist you in locating your seating assignment (look for students wearing a bright yellow vest).
As a courtesy to all viewers, if you are bringing balloons, please tie balloons onto the fence on the outskirts of the school (near Casuda Canyon) before you get to your seat.
To prevent overcrowding in the front of the stage, please remain in your seats throughout the entire program. We will have a photographer capture each student's special moment as they receive their certificate, and each student will receive a complimentary digital photo. This will allow for an unobstructed view for all audience members. The event will also be video recorded, and the video will be posted to the Monterey Highlands website.
At the end of the ceremony, please sign out your child at the checkout tables, which are located at gate 5 (the same gate you check in). Please bring your ID.
8th Grade Dinner Dance - Thurs 5/23/24 from 4pm - 8pm
Courtyard Marriott, 555 N Atlantic, Monterey Park, CA
Check-ins for the dance will begin promptly at 4pm. Students may be dropped off in the valet lane outside the hotel. Look for the Husky Mascot.
Upon checking in, students will be asked to surrender their phones, which will be stored in a secure location in the foyer (outside the ballroom) under chaperone/staff supervision during the dance. Phones will be returned at check-out. The ballroom and restrooms are cell-phone-free spaces for this event.
A photo booth and videographer have been hired for this event to capture memories, photo and videos of the dance. All media from the dance will be shared with 8th grade families.
There are no in-and-out privileges from the dance. Students must remain in the ballroom area of the hotel for duration of their stay at the dance. Students may not wander in the hotel lobby, restaurants or any other hotel area (including the boba shop).
Students can only be checked out by a parent/guardian/emergency contact or individual named on the permission slip. Please bring your ID.
The last dance will be at 7:45pm, after which time students will be asked to call home for pickup, if they havenβt already done so.
The valet line may become congested, so we encourage you to park in the 1-hour parking stalls behind the hotel for pickup.
Bobaful will be offering a 10% discount to Highlands students so please bring cash if you would like to purchase a boba at the *end* of the dance.
I look forward to seeing you and celebrating this special milestone with soon-to-be Husky alumni!
Sincerely,
-Mr. B
