Hello Falcons!
Welcome to March! We are quickly moving from Quarter 3 to Quarter 4 in the next two weeks, and we will be preparing ourselves to conquer Spring MAP and SCReady. Please note, assignments for the quarter should be completed by Wednesday so students can focus on retaking any tests from the quarter, if needed. Quarter 3 Benchmarks will be given the week of March 10 and will be the last major for the quarter.
Next week, we have Read Across America week. Check out calendar of events by Ms. Heyward and Ms. Gaskin! We have Rising 6th grade night for our local 5th graders on Tuesday, and Thursday is Spirit Night at Penn Station!

Dress Code
Parents, please assist us with your student complying with Dress Code. Students should wear appropriate pants/shorts, collared shirts/Sullvan t-shirts, and appropriate shoes daily. Students may wear a Sullivan sweatshirt or plain sweatshirt, as well. Jeans, Leggings, cotton joggers/sweatpants, and backless shoes (Crocs not in "sportsmode") are not allowed. Jackets and hooded-sweatshirts should be placed in lockers at the start of the day until dismissal.
As we enter March, and warmer weather approaches, students will begin wearing Spring/Summer clothing. Please check the fit, as most students will grow dramatically between Fall and Spring.
You can find our Dress Code listed on page 42 in the Student Handbook.
Computer News!
Sullivan is working with the district to remove acess to certain messaging sites on student computers such as Facebook, Pinterest and Instagram. While teachers monitor student use, often times, some students are able to sneak a message here or there. We will continue to work diligently to ensure proper use of technology in the classroom. Thank you for your continued support!
PTO-Lucky to Have You!
Sullivan PTO is back again, and we are lucky to have them! They will be holding a "Lucky to Have You" Potato Bar. Please see the Sign Up to help!
Paper Donations!
Donate your unwanted grocery store ads/newspapers to the “Plant Your Paper” IB project. Support students in their attempt to reduce waste and repopulate the wildflower population on our planet! Please bring your donations to the front office of Sullivan Middle School by March 7. Leave them with a note for Ms. Arruda and we will ensure the students get the materials! Want to help even more? Falcons SOAR!
As Falcons, we don't want to just "meet the requirement" as student-athletes. We want to raise the bar! Coming soon will be new guidelines for all student-athletes, no matter the sport. Our Falcons will SOAR, and they will show their Falcon Pride through their academic excellence and sportsmanship.
S-Sportsmanship
O-Ownership
A-Academics and Attendance
R-Represent as Role Models
Falcons will be required to hold at least a C in classes; Bs and As are preferred. Should a student drop below a C in any class, then tutoring will be required instead of practice. Students will not be penalized for attending tutoring. Students are expected to attend school and meet attendance requirements, and they should show exemplary behavior in class.
Academics, attendance and behavior will be checked weekly.
As Falcons, we believe that Academics comes first, and student-athletes are role models for all. Falcons represent Sullivan as proud, outstanding student-athletes who will be ready to meet the next level of expectations in high school and beyond.
Flu
Cases of Flu are on the rise.
Please do not send students to school if they are running a fever. Please report the absence to attendance, and only allow the student to return when he/she is 24 hours fever free without using fever-reducing medications and when symptoms have significantly improved.
For more information, please reach out to Nurse Bailey or check HERE.

Mindful March!
Homework!
As part of their weekly studying and home work plan, students should practice on IXL nightly, in order to increase their mastery of math concepts!
IXL--Math Practice at your Fingertips!
Sullivan has a subscription to the IXL platform for math. IXL is a resource in which teachers create individualized math skill plans for students based on their MAP performance and perceived gaps in learning. Questions are aligned to state standards, and students are to practice problems daily. If used as expected, students should be able to master, or become proficient in, one math skill per week.
Please encourage your student to practice math daily. IXL can be accessed from home just through signing in to his/her account.
To practice IXL online, students can sign in through Launchpad, or on a tablet or electronic device.
From Launchad, click on the IXL icon.
https://launchpad.classlink.com/rockhill
The login for launchpad username: the first and last initials capitalized then the lunch number (ex: JP55555). Password is the birthdate.
For IXL, every student has a skill plan to work on that's based on individual needs. If the student does not go through Launchpad and their official login, then the IXL modules will be generic and not based on individual skill needs.
Please make sure that your student is practicing math skills at home or in the car. The time to complete these lessons should take no more than 20 minutes a night.
Computers
Need to catch up on assignments? Have a project? Fill out the Request Form in order to take home the school laptop.
