It has been wonderful to have your children back at school this week! We have truly enjoyed seeing their smiling faces, and their enthusiasm has filled our halls with positivity. It was a pleasure seeing many of you at our Fall Festival-themed Literacy Night, where students and families came together to celebrate reading and learning in such a fun and festive way. Your support for events like these makes such a big difference, and we are so grateful to be part of such a strong, engaged community.
As we head into the long weekend, we hope you and your families have a chance to rest and recharge. We look forward to welcoming your children back on Wednesday, refreshed and ready for another exciting week of learning. Thank you for continuing to entrust us with your children’s education and for being such wonderful partners in their growth.

Upcoming Events and Information
Title I Fall Conferences
Every year, Crosswell Elementary has fall and spring conferences. Your child's teacher should be in contact very soon about scheduling a fall conference time with you. These conferences are very important as teachers will discuss your child's academic progress (grades, i-Ready data, etc.), behavioral progress so far, and any upcoming events this year. This is a great time for you to ask questions and discuss your child's needs. Please be on the look out for info about conferences!
YAMS Application
Students in grades 3-5 are encouraged to sign up for YAMS at Crosswell! This is a wonderful opportunity for our students. Applications (see button below) are due to Mrs. Gillespie by Friday, October 18.
Free Internet through T-Mobile
Click the button below for more information and the opportunity to apply for this initiative! SDPC participates in the community eligibility program for meals so our students should qualify for this free service.

Habit #2: Begin with the End in Mind
This month's habit is Habit #2: Begin with the End in Mind. This habit focuses on how we have to think ahead and plan for our futures. With this habit, we think about who we want to be and how our actions have consequences that impact our futures. When thinking about this habit, ask yourself, "What do I want to accomplish? Who do I want to be? What do I want to be when I grow up? What do I want to become better at?" We will focus on creating personal goals as a family while practicing this habit!

The Reading Rope- Supporting Students with Reading at School and Home📘
The Reading Rope: Sight Recognition
Sight Recognition is the ability to read words automatically and accurately without having to sound them out. Sight words and High Frequency words (sometimes called flash words) are the same kind of words. These words students have to memorize because they do not follow phonics' rules. With LETRs and HMH, there are Heart Words which differ from Sight/High Frequency in that students must learn the rule before learning the word "by heart". The point of sight recognition is NOT for students jus to memorize words. See below for some ways to practice sight and heart words! See below ways to practice these words at home!

The Basics are 5 fun, simple, and powerful ways that every parent and caregiver can give every child a great start in life! These basics are simple and for everyone and are based on decades of research! Join us for Cub Tales!
