Miller Elementary Weekly Update
April 7, 2024
Mrs. Goodman's Message
Hello Miller Families!
I hope your family enjoyed a restful spring break and you are adjusting back into your school routines. As a reminder, there will be NO SCHOOL on Monday, April 8th due to the Solar Eclipse. We hope your family enjoys this special experience!
This upcoming week, we have our Kindergarten Music Performances on Tuesday, April 9th during the school day! We will open the front doors 5 min before the performance time so your family can take a seat in our gym. Our performances will begin promptly and we can't wait for you to see your amazing little ones! We will also record each performance and send it out in case your family has other obligations. We will have all our little ones wave goodbye to our special visitors instead of giving hugs and saying goodbye. Finally, please try to find a parking space and not use the grassy areas or create your own spot. You can use the Leighton main parking lot as long as the gate is open (the lot is closed during lunch times.) Our school resource officer will be monitoring the parking lot during recess times for safety. Please see the schedule below so you know what time your child will be performing.
9:30-9:55- Mrs. Smerkar, Mrs. Sabulsky & Mrs. Verhotz/Miss Kirby's AM Class

I want to put a few end of the year dates on your radar so that your family can plan accordingly! Spring can be a busy time of year for all. Ms. Stewart from Craddock and I are in full swing with transition meetings and planning for the 24-25 school year! She is excited to meet with the families of all our incoming 1st-grade children on Tuesday, May 14th at 6:30 in the Craddock gym. She also has provided you with a Student Placement Parent Feedback Form to gather input you may have regarding the transition to next school year. You can find this below!
We have confirmed the date for our Preschool Graduation. We will celebrate our preschool graduates on Monday, May 20th from 5:30-6:30 PM on the Miller Playground. More information about this event will be shared in May. As a reminder, this event is for our preschoolers who will be graduating and moving on to kindergarten for the 24-25 school year! There is no graduation ceremony for our rising first graders.
Have a wonderful time experiencing the Solar Eclipse!
Kindly,
Maria Goodman

Welcome to Craddock Incoming 1st Graders!
Greetings Parents of Incoming 1st Graders!
As we begin the process of wrapping up the current school year, we can't help but begin to think about next year. Part of that process is the formulation of class placements. Class placements are constructed in a very particular manner, using data and input from the educational experts at Miller, Craddock and Leighton. We take many factors into consideration when making these decisions and feel it is very important that your input is utilized as well. You know your child best!
Although I cannot guarantee specific teacher requests will be granted due to a number of different factors, it is important to have as much information about each child as possible before the class list-making process gets underway. We recognize that parents/guardians are a valuable source of information to add to our knowledge about what works best for each child. Your information will be very helpful as we determine your child's placement for the 24-25 school year.
If you are interested in having some input, please fill out the following information and submit this form by Friday, May 10, 2024. Any feedback received after that date may not be able to be considered. You are also welcome to call or set up an appointment to speak with me specifically about your thoughts and concerns. I can be reached by email at kmstewart@aurora-schools.org or by phone at 330-562-3175. Thank you!

Extra Clothes
With the warmer temperatures this week, our students enjoyed some messy recess time! Although we make parts of our outdoor play areas off-limits, little children seem to find the mud from time to time.
1: Please make sure your child has a change of clothes in their backpack. This includes extra socks and underwear. They often feel more comfortable in their own clothing.
2: Our clinic is running low on pants. If your family has a pair of girls or boys pants that your child has out grown and you would be willing to donate to our school, we would appreciate any donations. Please send in washed items labeled "Extra Clinic Clothes" and we will put them to good use. Thank you!
School Counselor Updates: Mrs. Ambrosia
Happy March, Miller Families! These past few weeks at school have been filled with classroom guidance lessons focused on personal body safety, diversity, and coping skills. “Miss Becca” from Townhall II delivered an age-appropriate lesson to our Kindergarteners that participated to teach and remind them about safe body choices. You likely saw her letter travel home in your student’s green take home folder to use as a talking point. In addition, during our next classroom guidance lesson, we listened to the read-aloud, The Judgemental Flower by Julia Cook, to focus on celebrating diversity. I absolutely love reading this book with Kindergarten students as they are most certainly always the first to include, help and care for their classmates. It’s a nice reminder this time of year that our differences are what make us special and should be celebrated. Please enjoy this link to K-2 Diversity & Inclusion Literature for Families where you can access books from the library for your students to enjoy! Finally, we are still mastering our coping skills! This week or next, your student will be sharing coping strategies that work best for them. They’ll be bringing home a sheet of coping skills they have selected to try to use when they experience big emotions in hopes they can become a bit smaller. Please don’t hesitate to reach out to me with any questions or if I can help support your student in any way!

Miller Parent Pick-Up and Attendance Reporting
This is a reminder that we are using our Miller Attendance and Parent Pick-up Form as an easy communication tool to report your child will be absent or you need to pick them up from school early. You still need to use the Alternative Bus Stop Form linked in this newsletter if you need your child's bus to change. You do not need to report if they will not be riding the bus in the morning due to an absence or illness on this form.
If you want to change your child from a bus rider to a parent pick-up, please scan the QR code below or click the button to fill out our Google form. This can be done from any device and your reply will be sent immediately to our secretary, Mrs. Wolf.
If you need an alternative bus stop or a change in busing, we also have attached the transportation forms to change your child's busing information. These forms need to be completed and sent to our transportation department at transportationinfo@aurora-schools.org
As a reminder, you can send in cash or check made out to the Aurora City Schools and we will add any amount to your child's lunch account. Please send in money in a clearly labeled envelope so we know to add this amount to your child's account!
