Montesano School District is offering a Transition to Kindergarten program for the 2024-2025 school year! Children must be 4 years old by August 31st in order to be eligible. Space is limited, so please sign up now to request a free screening for your child in June.

Transition to Kindergarten is a free, full-day early entrance kindergarten program for children who do not have access to high-quality early learning experiences prior to kindergarten and have been deemed by the school district, through a screening process, to be in need of additional preparation to be successful in kindergarten the following year. The program uses play-based strategies that focus on basic academic and social skills to help qualifying students get a jump start towards success in school.

Students already attending Montesano schools do not need to re-enroll.

This month teachers will begin administering the end of the year Diagnostic Assessment for reading and math. The adaptive diagnostic provides a global view of K–12 skills, capturing a complete picture of student performance and growth, including insights into student learning to inform instructional decisions and, when needed, targeted remediation. The diagnostic is typically administered at the beginning, middle, and end of the year in order to track student growth and changes in performance and needs after each 12- to 18-week instructional cycle.

This diagnostic will also help us to determine fall needs for our students. Please check with your child's teacher for their assessment schedule.

Beacon Elementary has received grant funding to provide swim lessons for all kindergarten students. This includes eight swim lessons focusing on safety in and around water. These will take place May 28 - 31 and June 3 - 6 at the YMCA in Hoquiam. Students will ride the bus to and from the YMCA and will be supervised by Beacon Elementary Staff and designated Volunteers. Please excuse any remaining unexcused absences at your earliest convenience.

To excuse an absence, click here and log into Skyward Family Access and follow these steps:

1. Select the Attendance tab on the left side of the screen
2. Select Enter Absent Request
3. Select Add Request
4. Enter the appropriate information regarding your student's absence

You can also excuse an absence by calling the office at 360-249-4528, or emailing us at beaconskyward@monteschools.org.

The last day to checkout library books will be May 17. All library books will need to be returned by May 23. Please contact Kim Adams, school librarian, if you have any questions at

kadams@monteschools.org.

Is your child missing a sweatshirt or jacket? Lost and found items are on display by the lunch room. Your child can look for their lost item on the way to lunch. You can also check our lost and found online. A link is available on our website or by clicking here: Beacon Lost & Found.

Please clearly label personal belongings with your child's name so that lost items may be returned promptly.

All remaining unclaimed items will be donated on June 7.
