Community Crew News #40
June 1st, 2024
Greetings Conway Community!
On Thursday we held our closing Community Day event. Den leaders engaged students in collaboration and competition in a joyful, supportive environment through team-building initiatives and cooperative problem-solving games.
This year our Dens focused on building understanding of foundational concepts of our motto "We are Crew, not passengers and our Expeditionary Learning Design Principles, building a growth mindset, and our Habits of Character - EPIC. This final culminated CREW event began with a den meeting and exploration of our final design principle - The Natural World.

Crew, an engine for equity and inclusion
Our community day creates space where ALL students feel they belong and can succeed. The culture of crew extends beyond thee school wall to relationships with peers across our entire campus.
Whenever possible, we sit or stand in CREW circles. A circle allows Crew members to be equally vulnerable, connected, seen, and supportive of another. Our closing crew celebrated the contributions of volunteers, Coach E for creating such an EPIC day, and all members of the learning community. Each member, on the count of three, shouted out what meant most to them this year at Conway as a closing reflective moment.
End of Year Kindergarten Program
Thank you to our kindergarten team, teachers Mrs. Booth, Mrs. Sotelo, and Mrs. Petrucelli and para-educators Mrs. B and Miss Mayra for leading our students in the process of creating a beautiful high quality singing program. Our kinder students sang about being ready for 1st grade!
Following the four songs, kindergarten families were invited outdoors to stand in a crew circle with each class behind their student as they closed with kindergarten certificates. It was the perfect way to celebrate our incredible learners.
Communication is extremely important to everyone at our EPIC school. Please make sure to scroll all the way through the weekly message. If you miss a message, you can view all communication on our website under "NEWS".
I am grateful for the opportunity to inspire students to discover their unlimited potential through Excellence, Perseverance, Integrity, and Compassion. Together we are creating an EPIC school.
We are in this together and believe, We Are Crew, not passengers.

E.P.I.C Awards
Twice a year, we hold school-wide EPIC awards. We are so proud to regularly recognize students during our weekly Crew Celebration on Thursdays, but these awards are much more than a monthly recognition. It's a recognition of an entire academic year's progress.
As an Expeditionary Learning School, it is essential for us to also recognize scholars and active citizens for their E.P.I.C growth and achievement. During our EPIC Awards, students are recognized for exemplifying our EPIC norms:
Excellence
Perseverance
Integrity
Compassion
As an Expeditionary Learning school, we measure growth in 3 dimensions - MKS, Character, and HQW. There are multiple ways for student to demonstrate that growth. This past week we celebrated our learners for exceptional achievement in their personal growth as a scholar and or active citizen.
Materials Collection Week
All library books were due on May 17th. Overdue book lists were provided to classrooms and students were notified of overdue books last week. Please turn in ALL books this week. Fines have been given. Yearbooks will be distributed first to students that have turned in all items this week. This includes library books, i-pad, charger, case, hot spot (if checked out), and brick.
This week we will collect all overdue technology and books! Please help your student be prepared for material collection this week.
