Attendance
Many parents received a letter in the mail regarding their students attendance and had questions over the past week. I want to reassure every one that the importance of attendance is balanced by the idea of the uncontrollable adversities we face with a thing called... life.
I get it. Trust me.
The topic of attendance does not come with an ounce of judgement. However, as a principal and part of the states educational system. Attendance is very much a main point of focus when it comes to our kiddos education and growth areas. And more so than the state - as a principal - I want every kiddo to WANT to come to school!
With that said the letters mailed come just a reminder or even so that you are aware - sometimes as a parent when dealing with sickness or one thing after another we don't realize how quickly days add up.
The goal for every school is to have 95% of the students AT SCHOOL 95% of the time. That doesn't leave a lot of room arriving late multiple days a week or leaving early, it also doesn't leave a lot of room for the viruses that hit inexpediently and unfortunately never at convenient times. Let's go back to the point that judgement is never on the table but always we will have a lending hand IF we can help in ANY WAY!

Difference Maker Shout Outs!
Citizenship - Being a Role Model.
- Connor W. - Connor has improved so much in a short time! He is doing a great job reading during the day and at story time. He shared his creativity with his family by playing a song on our piano that he created on his own! He is taking responsibility for keeping his room clean and picking up his things. Way to go Connor!
Critical Thinking - Being a Problem Solver.
- Mrs. Livingstone: Thank you Mrs Livingstone for being such a wonderful teacher to our son! You go above and beyond to make sure your students are taken care of, for example show how much you care about them by doing things like asking about sports schedules to cheer them on! We are lucky to have you.
Collaboration: Being a Team Player
- Mr. Tom - Thank you to Mr Sutton for always having a smile on your face and being welcoming for after school activities. You enjoy interacting with the kids that go to Truman and the ones who used to go there. Thank you!!
Communication: Being Open and Honest.
- Dr. Sladek - Thank you Dr Sladek for taking time out of your day to talk to me about complex challenges in an open, honest manner. You show transparency and leadership. I’m so proud that you are our son’s principal! Thank you for being YOU!

MVR3 Long Range Master Planning
Parent Informational Meetings:
Meramec Valley R-III School District invites all families and community members to learn more about the Long-Range Master Planning process. Each elementary building will host an informational meeting at 5:30 PM on the following date:
*Zitzman - Tuesday, Jan. 23
* Coleman - Thursday, Jan. 25
MVR3 is at the stage in the Long Range Master Planning process to invite parents, families and community members into informational meetings to have an idea of all the things being addressed and considered within the school district.
The district has a lot of data, feedback and information that goes into big decisions for our district and we want to take to make sure you have full understanding, have time to ask question, give suggestion and process all the happenings so you are in the full, and accurate loop!
I want to note that the bullet about possible reorganization of elementary schools is a big part of the discussion and there are narrowed down options for that what may look like for elementary families, staff, and buildings. Truman Elementary is a very big piece of this discussion and I encourage you to come and see the information and options being discussed.
If you cannot make the 1/9 date at Truman... that is okay - the same presentation and information are being shared at every meeting so look to see if another date works. All information is also public and there is a webpage dedicated to browse through all the information. I am also happy to meet with you in person if you are not able to make any meetings and still have questions after viewing the information online - throughout this entire process I am here to be a listening ear and help give accurate and honest information.
MVR3 Long Range Planning Survey:
Dear MVR-III Families,
The Meramec Valley Board of Education held a special meeting and hearing over the District’s Long-Range Planning on Thursday, January 18th. We value and are seeking parents, staff, and community input on the options for future planning. Please consider taking the Long-Range Planning Survey to help guide the District in future planning.
As we look to the future of our district, we are excited and determined to continue the tradition of wisely utilizing our resources to create innovative learning and working environments for our students and staff. It's our pledge to uphold this excellence while managing resources conservatively, especially in the face of stagnant state and federal funding. We appreciate the community’s support, the dedication of our families, and are grateful for your continued partnership in shaping a brighter future for our students.
Note: Participants will need to log into Google to take the survey. Paper copies of the survey are available upon request at all MVR-III schools and at the Administration Building on Tuesday, January 23, 2024 through Monday, January 29, 2024 at 4:30 p.m.
Thank you ,
