Updates From The Principal
Hello NRMS Families,
This past Wednesday evening was the 6th Grade Winter Concert in our auditorium. Our student-musicians in the orchestra, chorus, and band performed a number of pieces and sounded wonderful. Thanks to all of the family members that were in the audience in support of our students. It is always so nice to see our students shine on stage. At the end of this month our Drama Club will present their production of Alice in Wonderland. We hope everyone will come see the show. Details coming soon.
Our student-athletes are also working hard on the court with both the boys and girls basketball teams' seasons in progress. This week, a senior at Nauset Regional High School who is an outstanding athlete and scholar met with our basketball teams. He shared his advice for students to place as much effort into academics as athletics. He shared the college recruitment process and why he selected a Division III school that is one of the best in the country, academically instead of pursuing opportunities at a Division I school. It was a powerful talk that I believe made a positive impact on our students. Thanks to Mr. Negron, our athletics director for coordinating this.
The PTO also met earlier this week. Please consider volunteering some time to join the PTO or assist with the events they have planned this winter and spring. Their next event is a collaboration with our Student Council; the Winter Wonderland dance on January 31 from 6-8pm. There will be plenty of opportunities to assist with setup, clean up, food donations, etc. Please reach out to the PTO if interested in helping out. PTONRMS@gmail.com
There are still three weeks remaining in the second quarter. Please work with your child on creating a plan to stay on top of assignments and turn in missing work to be able to improve their academic standing prior to the end of the quarter. Middle school is all about developing strong skills including time management and executive function skills to be the best scholars we can be.
As you know, it has been a very cold January to date. As I stand outside to greet students as they arrive at the drop off side of the school each morning, I notice that some students are getting out of cars not fully prepared for the winter weather. I know it can be a battle with some of our students to get them to wear coats and hats and gloves. Please keep trying and if any family is in need of winter gear, please reach out to your child's counselor or the school nurse and we will do what we can to support your family.
If you are looking for a safe, warm after school option for your child, our neighbors down the road at the Orleans United Methodist Church will be hosting a "homework hub" on Wednesday afternoons. See flyer below. This is open to all NRMS students. Just be sure to send your child with a permission form that can be picked up at the front office or a note from home signed by a parent will be accepted.
We are seeking some custodial help, as our custodian/maintenance crew has three open positions. Please spread the word in case you know of anyone who is looking for some steady work with benefits. We have both daytime and second shift positions available and could really use some help. Thanks!
Next week we will update some of the plans for end of year events for our 8th graders.
Have a wonderful weekend and stay warm!
