April
Delgado's Notes
Happy Spring! I hope everyone had a restful and safe Spring Break. As we return back to school, we also return with our school wide focus of social growth and academic achievement. During this time of the year we are even more vigilante at meeting the individualized goals set as we begin to prepare our students for the next grade level. As the weather gets warmer and our students become more active, we will continue to set expectations so that the nucleus of our efforts will continue to inspire our students to excel. March was full of some amazing activities and events and I am looking forward to what is in store for April! We kicked off the month of April with our school wide focus, BEE the Reason Someone Smiles Today! During our family meeting we were able to discuss the importance of something as simple as a smile that can change someone's day. As always we appreciate the support from our parents, as the home to school connection is the cornerstone of the Frost community.

Important Information
- We will continue to remind our students of outdoor safety and behavioral expectations during recess. As the weather warms up students will be able to have outdoor recess more often. Please make sure that students have the appropriate footwear and clothing for outdoor play.
- Our 3rd and 4th grade students will be participating in the NJSLA assessment the week of May 13th. All students will need wired headphones for the assessment. If your child already has wired headphones for the classroom there is no need to purchase another pair. If they do not have a pair for school please provide a pair that can remain in the classroom for the duration of the assessment.
- The use of cell phones (and Smart Watches) are prohibited during the school day. Students are not allowed to place or receive phone calls during the instructional day. We ask that if you need to speak to your child for a personal emergency, please contact the main office. This supports the privacy and safety of all students in the building.
- Please remind students to follow all safety rules on the bus. They should always buckle their seat belts while on the bus and follow the directions given by the bus driver.
Solar Eclipse
We are eagerly anticipating the solar eclipse that will take place on April 8th. Thanks to the generosity of the EBEF all K-12 students and instructional staff have provided with ISO-12312-2 glasses approved for direct observation of the Sun. Before heading outdoors to view the eclipse, students from Kindergarten to 12th grade will receive instruction on what they will be witnessing and the proper safety practices. Students will be able to keep the glasses for future use and for viewing the remainder of the eclipse at home.
To further enhance the educational experience, Eclipse Ambassadors consisting of students from Churchill and EBHS, under the guidance of Physics Teacher Stephanie Holtzman, will be visiting each elementary school to share valuable insights about the eclipse.
The eclipse will begin at around 2:10 PM, reach maximum coverage at 3:24 PM and conclude at 4:35 PM. At Frost School, we will plan on bringing the students to the fields at between 2:30 PM and 2:40 PM. Students will be instructed not to look directly at the Sun without glasses.
If you would like your child to remain indoors please email your child's teacher. All students not viewing the eclipse will be supervised indoors.

Frost’s school climate events will be popping up throughout April like the tulips in your garden! We will be celebrating Earth Day and Disability Awareness Week. We will also be participating in various classroom activities to promote our monthly focus, Bee the Reason Someone Smiles Today!
As we approach standardized test taking for grades 3 and 4, many of our students’ worry and anxiety levels tend to increase. Here are some tips to help your child cope.
1. Listen: Allow your child to express their feelings. Encourage them to talk about their worries and listen without interrupting. Let them know it’s ok to feel anxious and you are there for them to help them through these feelings.
2.Be a role model: Take a moment to self-reflect on how you handle stress.
Remember that children look at their caregivers as role models. This means, show your child healthy ways of managing stressors so they will try to emulate you. Not surprisingly, a healthy diet and a good night’s sleep can make a difference in how well you can handle a stressful situation.
3. Breathing: Practice 4-7-8 breathing with your child in the morning and before bedtime.
Breathe in for 4 seconds, hold the breath for 7 seconds, and exhale for 8 seconds. This
technique forces the mind and body to focus on regulating the breath, rather than
replaying your worries in your brain.
