The competitions celebrate the creative talents of high school students in both visual and literary arts have now evolved into "Vision & Verse: White Bear Center for the Arts' High School Visual Arts and Writing Exhibition." This new name highlights both writing and visual arts equally while keeping them as distinct competitions.
Students in the Northeast Metro Area enrolled in grades 9-12 are invited to submit their original creative works to either or both of the annual Vision & Verse contests. Winning entries in both competitions will be awarded cash prizes, and select entries will be eligible to be published in WBCA's annual student literary magazine, “Repose.”
LACROSSE RESULTS
Opportunities gained and opportunities lost for the Irondale Boys Lacrosse team this week. On Tuesday night, the Knights had the chance to knock off a tough East Ridge team led by Division I Air Force commit Kaden Baron, but came up just short in a 7-6 home loss. From a fan's perspective it was probably the best game of the year as the teams matched each other goal for goal until the final 13 seconds when the Raptors Leo Stalsberg scored the game winner, his second of the night. Up to that point the Knights defense put forth one of their best performances holding Baron and Stalsberg to just two goals each. Senior goalie Elias Notsch turned back the Raptors time after time and gave the Knights his best game of the season. The loss was particularly difficult to swallow after learning Thursday night that East Ridge came within a goal of upsetting #2 ranked Stillwater 11-10.
It was a different story last night against Park of Cottage Grove on Senior night, as this group of seniors had the opportunity to beat the Wolfpack and go 4-0 against them for their career, which they did in dominant fashion. The rain wouldn't stop and neither would the Knights as they scored early and often and jumped on Park for a 13-3 halftime lead on the way to a 17-5 win to improve to 3-3 in the Suburban East and 5-3 overall. Senior midfielder Freddie Bankston led the onslaught with 5 goals while Junior Yan Manchik followed with 4, including a nifty behind the back shot in the second half. The Knights dominated the faceoff dot with Sophomores Grant Hartin and Caden Nelson combining to win 12 of 16 faceoffs in the first half alone. The rain did not dampen the mood as 10 seniors were honored for their contributions to the Irondale program.
Up Next: Tuesday, May 6, at #2 Stillwater 5:30p and 7:00p
Thursday, May 8, HOME against Woodbury 5:30p and 7:00p
