Typical End of the Year
Although we can certainly say that we are experiencing an end of the school year like no other, I have had several conversations this week with teachers, parents, and learners from Manheim Central and other districts about the lack of learner motivation they have been seeing or having recently. These comments caused me to reflect upon a traditional end-of-the-year and made me ask a few questions: What has motivation and engagement been like at this time of year when we are inside the brick and mortar environment? Haven't we always had to "step up our game" so to speak at this time of year to keep our kids motivated and able to complete the last few weeks of the school year? How can we engage learners and help them focus on completing work here at the end of the virtual school year?
I am not sure how you feel, but the end of the year has typically come with a flourish of activities and commitments for our learners (sports, music, academic, etc.). These typical activities may not be happening for our learners; but the weather is turning and the sun is shining. As we reflect on another week of Online Learning, let's celebrate those who are going above and beyond to engage and motivate MC learners during this very typical time when learners start to become preoccupied with summer being just around the corner. What will you do over the next few weeks to motivate and engage your learners so they finish strong in 2019-2020?
