Greetings, Viper Community!
We've had an exciting week at VMMS! Our Viper Counseling Department put on a fun week of optional lunchtime activities to celebrate Hispanic Heritage month. Students were engaged in games from Mexico, listened to Spanish music, and created colorful tissue paper flowers.
As an IB school, we honor and celebrate the diversity of our world and local community. Please ask your Viper if they took part in any of these fun activities this week!
At VMMS we have two 0 period elective classes called Hermanitas and Encuentros. These courses provide students with the opportunity to grow in appreciation of their cultural identity while cultivating a sense of community and leadership at VMMS. Big shout out to Mr. Galasso and Ms. Ritter who teach and inspire these amazing Vipers each day!

Important Update:
Learning Labs begin this week on Monday, Sept. 30th. We have had many students turn in permission slips to participate in our many offerings. Please see below for details:
- Learning Labs are only Monday-Thursday. No learning labs on Friday.
- Morning Lab Times- 7:50-8:40 (enter through front gate)
- Afternoon Lab Times- 3:50-4:40 (Students will congregate in the lunch area and will be offered a snack catered by our CNS department. Students will be dismissed from the front gates.)
- Regular attendance is required

Academic Learning Labs
Permission slips went out to select students (teacher referrals) for the Academic Learning Labs. These specialized classes are for intervention support in reading/math and work habits study hall for organization and assignment assistance. If there is additional space, ALL student will have the opportunity to sign up. Permissions slips will be available in the office soon.
We look forward to our Vipers engaging in these additional opportunities to BELONG and ACHIEVE!
NEW! IMPORTANT! PLEASE READ!
The Civic Center Parking Lot (located across the street from the VMMS front entrance) will be CLOSED beginning Oct. 7th through March 2025. The City of Vista will be installing a solar carport structure. Many VMMS students get dropped off in the morning and are picked up in the afternoon through this lot. Please reroute your routine and utilize our supervised drop off/pick up areas found in the back of VMMS.
Refrain from using the business parking lots located on Civic Center and/or blocking traffic on the main/side streets (this is a very unsafe way of dropping/picking up your student, please don't do this).
*Staff will be present NEXT WEEK in the Civic Center parking lot distributing reminder flyers. Thank you!
Supervised Pick-Up and Drop-Off located on Eucalyptus Ave. or enter through the field at the Citrus Ave. gate. Utilize the Pick Up/Drop off Loop for easy access. This typically flows very quickly and is SAFER for our Viper students.
The Viper Fall Sports Season is well underway. Our athletes in the following sports have been dedicated in practicing for their upcoming games/meets:
Girls Soccer: 10/3 @ 4:30 Vipers vs. MMS Mustangs @ Madison
Flag Football: 10/2 @ 4:30 Vipers vs. VIDA Sharks @ VMMS
Girls Volleyball: 10/1 @ Varsity 4:30/JV 5:30 Vipers vs. High Tech Raptors @ VMMS
Cross Country: 10/2 @ 4:15 @ Potter Jr. High

Please be aware of the VUSD Middle School Sporting Events Rules:
- Spectators: family members of players & Home Team students only (must show school ID)
- No re-entry after exit
- No food or drink allowed in indoor facilities
Students have the opportunity to complete homework and engage in numerous fun offerings like arts & crafts, cooking class, comic book art class, and more! We are very fortunate to have this safe space where students can grow in their connection with each other and VMMS.

Please join our 1st PTA Association Meeting on October 7th @ 6:00 via Zoom (link information to follow). Get to know our VMMS PTA Executive Board members and more information for PTA sponsored events for our school year.
Please consider being a PTA Member for $10. Anyone can join and there is no obligation to attend any meetings or participate (though we would love it if you would). The membership dues collected go towards supporting various programs, events and other needs for our students and staff. Thank you for your support! It takes a VILLAGE!
