NHS and Rho Kappa Serving Our Servicemen and Servicewomen
On Thursday, November 23rd, Leyden High Schools hosted over 250 recruits from the Great Lakes Naval Base to provide them with a warm Thanksgiving meal with all of the fixings. Thank you to the members of our school board, administrative team, food services, transportation, maintenance, catering classes, and the chamber choir for giving their time and talents to make this a special day for everyone. National Honor Society and Rho Kappa students from East and West Leyden also volunteered to schmooze and play games with our guests. Serving those who have chosen to serve our country was the least we could do to show our appreciation and gratitude.
Giving Tuesday!
Giving Tuesday was created in 2012 as a simple idea: a day that encourages people to do good. Giving Tuesday was born at the 92nd Street Y and its Belfer Center for Innovation & Social Impact in New York City. Giving Tuesday is now an independent nonprofit and a global movement that inspires hundreds of millions of people to give, collaborate, and celebrate generosity.

Reading Chair Contest
Let's make this year the best one ever! You've got plenty of time to create a winning team. Join us in celebrating all things reading on December 6, 2023 in the West Leyden Library! It is simple. Create a team of 8, with one alternate. Come up with a clever team name and a team captain. Your team can be a mix of administration, faculty, students, and staff.
StuCo and Rho Kappa Coat, Toy, and Food Drive
Students who donate coats, food and/or toys to the Food and Toy Drive have the opportunity to enter a raffle! Please encourage your students to bring non-perishable food items and unwrapped toys for kids ages 11 - 14 to the Student Activities office during all lunch periods from November 27th - December 8th.
We will also be hosting a Penny War to fundraise money from December 4th - December 8th during all lunch periods in the Student Activities Office. The class who raises the most money will win 500 points for Junior Olympics 2024! All proceeds will benefit Leyden Township and Leyden Family Services.
Here's the slideshow which provides more details.
Thank you for your support!
StuCo Blood Drive
On Thursday, December 14th, Student Council will be hosting our winter blood drive in the Eagle's Wing. The health benefits and community needs make this a tough service project to beat. Students can start registering for an appointment online now! Students can also get help registering online during lunch periods the week of December 11th. Upperclassmen should consider donating. Students must be 16 or older and weigh at least 110 lbs. Anyone 18 or older may donate as a "walk-in". Staff members do NOT need an appointment and will be moved immediately to the front of the line. Thank you in advance for your donation - it may just save a life!
